Collecting Model Cars In Person

Posted on

When it comes to collecting things, most people make the bulk of their purchases online, especially if they are looking for specifics. Why waste time going to a store when you can enter in the exact thing that you want and see where it's available and the price you'd have to pay? It's certainly easier to get the instant gratification of the internet rather than go to a physical location only to be disappointed right?

Well not necessarily. Even expert collectors who are looking for that one item, such as a diecast model car, can get benefits from going into shops and stores. For one thing, you get to expand your collection and walk out with the item on the same day you buy it. There's something about seeing the physical item you want fully available to touch and hold, and just like in the movies, the angel choir sings and the backlight flicks on as you grab it.

Even if you don't find something you want, going to a store can help you expand your collection just by the virtue of looking around. Searching on the internet is so focused, and since you are so focused on this motorbike model, or this one diecast car model, you miss out on something else that you could really want. It's one thing to go to a physical store and see the object of your desire, but it's another to see the object and then have your eye caught by something else. If you've seen ads for model car shops like Car Models of Braidwood, you know the huge variety of models that can easily catch your eye!

Also, if you are a major car model collector, it can be helpful to talk about the model with the owners. They might be able to point you in the direction of similar models, let you know when another object of your collection is on their shelves, or even point you to a collectible that's either cheaper or has more features. If nothing else, you'll be able to share some conversation with staff and other store goers who have the same confidence and love of models that you do.

Plus, it can really be a fun adventure, where you and a few likeminded friends go to a car model store and just spend the day looking around. It makes time fly, brings the group closer, and it's always triumphant when everyone walks out with exactly the type of car they wanted – and maybe even something extra.

While the internet offers convenience and is perhaps a last resort for those who have been able to find a physical representation of the model they want, it pales in comparison to going to a physical shop. If you are a major model car enthusiast, the idea of spending a day at a store that specializes in your passion probably is a great idea! Being surrounded by and able to touch your favorite cars and hold the …

Types of String for Jewelry Making

Posted on

String material for jewelry and craft projects can range from a simple piece of nylon to a high-end piece of silk. They many different types of string material will ensure there is something for every project, but this can make it a little confusing to choose the right one. Let's take a look at a few of the most popular string options for jewelry making:

Nylon

Nylon is a highly versatile option that is practical for many different jewelry designs. It is a reliable option in woven bracelets and a useful choice for most general string related situations. Nylon string is split into several different categories. One of the popular types is the Chinese knotting cord which is a type of braided nylon. This nylon is very strong and easily able to maintain its shape. Also, the KO beading thread is abrasion resistant, strong and easy to secure the ends tightly.

Cotton

Cotton cord is a useful option for projects that can benefit from a distinctive look. This type of string material is created by combining several woven threads and applying a coating of wax to help minimize issues with fraying. It is great for stringing beads with a threaded hole in the region of 1 to 2 mm in thickness. Once the coating of wax is applied, the string is very clean and durable.

Elastic

Elastic cord is a useful option for making jewelry that needs a certain degree of flexibility, such as the stretchy bracelets. The elastic nature of this string makes the jewelry very easy to remove. Once the jewelry beads are placed on the elastic, it is relatively easy to secure using a basic surgeon's knot or similar. Also, for extra strength, the knot can easily be finished with a few drops of elastic friendly glue.

Polyethylene fiber

The use of polyethylene fiber is the right choice for pieces of jewelry that need a lot of strength. This material has the ability to give great all-round strength and is very easy to tie at the end of a project. It is a practical option for holding beads that aren't smooth.

Polyester cord

Polyester cord is a very strong and easy to use option for the macramé and shamballa jewelry designs. It is a useful choice when working with beads that have a large thread hole. The string is very dependable and will not lose its shape or shrink when it comes into contact with moisture.

Wedding Reception Protocol – Who Says What and When?

Posted on

A wedding reception can be formal or informal, but you must make sure you do it right – in other words you should follow the normal wedding reception protocol as that is what people will expect. Note however that the protocol is not as rigid as you might think, and can be regarded more as a set of guidelines. But what is the traditional wedding reception protocol?

A formal wedding reception is normally held in the restaurant of a hotel where facilities and staff are on-hand for a full sit-down meal – sometimes still referred to as the " wedding breakfast ". An informal reception with a buffet menu can be a less expensive option.

When the guests arrive at the reception, they should be greeting by a receiving line. This is normally the bride's mother and father, the bridegroom's mother and father, the bride, and finally the groom – in that order. If there is a large number of guests you might want to simply have the bride and groom welcoming the guests.

Guests are then normally presented with a drink, and when everyone has arrived they can start to look for their name cards in the dining area. The bride and groom should have sorted all this out well in advance, and the only point of protocol here is that at a formal wedding reception there is normally a top table for the principal members of the wedding party.

At some point the cake is normally cut – this is either at the end or part-way through. The bride holds the knife in her right hand, with the groom's right hand on hers, and then the bride's left hand on top of that. This is a big photo opportunity and the couple will have to stand in that position with a smile on their faces for several minutes! The cake is then whisked away by the restaurant staff to be cut up ready to be given out at the end of the reception as people are leaving. You may want to rescue the top tier to save for the christening of the first-born.

After the cake-cutting comes the highlight of the reception: the speeches.

The first to speak is the bride's father. He will normally say a few words and then propose the main toast: "Health and happiness to the bride and bridegroom" (or something similar).

The bridegroom then responds, thanking the bride's parents and the guests, and he ends by proposing a toast to the health of the bridesmaids.

The best man then speaks, replying for the bridesmaids, reading out the congratulatory cards and telegrams. The best man will also relate some stories about the groom (and bride, if they are friends too).

That is it as far as tradition is concerned but, if they wish, the bride, bride's mother, and the maid of honor (chief bridesmaid) can all make speeches – but it is best to check with the bride and groom first.

The Difference of Western and Eastern Clothing Culture

Posted on

When we talk about eastern clothing culture, what reminds of us is traditional Chinese clothing. However, to western clothing, it seems that we know fewer things. What we will think of is either western-style suit or luxurious noble clothes. Actually, the difference of western and eastern clothing culture is not simple. A clothing culture of a nationality is based on the culture of this nationality. After long history of culture, western and eastern clothing culture form unique characteristics and systems of each other. Now let me tell you something about that.

The first is the difference of color. On the one hand, the characteristic of a nationality revers the love of colors. In ancient China, black was regarded as the imperial color. The colors of imperial clothes in ancient dynasties were black. With the development of feudal central power, people worshiped the earth instead of the god. Therefore, color of clothing was mainly in yellow. On the other hand, in west, white and purple were the most popular color in Roman times. People held the view that white was pure and honest while purple represented elegance. However, since the Renaissance, clothes developed faster and faster. With the development of luxury, bright colors were popular with people. People of Spain like rose and gray while people of England like black.

The second is the difference of the shape. In one hand, Traditional Chinese clothes emphasized the vertical feeling. This design can make people look thin and tall. The most important is that this design can make up the short stature of easterners. In the other hand, classical western clothes emphasized lateral feeling. Extravagant outline of shoulder will have radiative effect. What is more, this design was fit into the passionate temperament of westerners. In the meanwhile, this design was fit into the tall and strong stature of westerners.

The third is the difference of pattern. On the one hand, we can see many patterns in Chinese clothes. People hold the view that lucky patterns show the propitious wish. From ancient time till today, propitious patterns were used widely. No matter expensive silk or common printed cloth, these patterns can be seen easily. These patterns not only show the totem worship but also express the feeling of descendants of the dragon. On the other hand, with the development of history, patterns in western clothes changed continually. In ancient time, people liked to use flowers and other plants. However, in recent generations, animal patterns were popular.

These are three main difference of western and eastern clothing culture. Wish they are useful for you.

    The Stages of Change Model

    Posted on

The transtheoretical model of change, also known as the stages of change model is a well established and useful way of considering different people's level's of motivation to change their behavior.

The stages of change model was developed by James Prochaska and Carlo DiClemente from the University of Rhode Island in 1977.

Understanding your situation to change by being familiar with the stages of change can help you choose tools that are right for you. The stages of change model shows that a change generally does not happen all at once, it is a process that begins with awareness about a wrong behavior and continues to eliminate old behavior and being replaced by new behavior.

There are six parts to the stages of change:

    Pre-contemplation stage:
In this stage people don't know that substance use is a problem. They are in denial and ignorance.

    Contemplation stage:
During the contemplation stage people become awareness that substance use is cause of their problems, but they are ambivalent about change, because they see change as giving up an enjoyed behavior. In this stage individual like change, but they fear.

    Preparation stage:
In this stage people know that their wrong behavior not only is cause of many of their problems, but also it is in conflict with their values, so they begin to experiment with making small changes and begin collecting information about change and recovery.

    Action stage:
People in this stage take direct action toward achieving a goal. Individuals modify their behavior, experiences or environment for changing wrong behavior and overcoming their problems.

    Maintenance stage:
In this stage people begin firming new behavior, so the possibility of relapse is always present. The relapse isn't as a failure to change behavior but as an opportunity to learn from unsuccessful attempts and thus increase the chances of success in the future. Relapsing is like falling off a horse- It's not about how you falling off, but how you get back on track.

    Termination stage:
The ultimate goal in the change process is termination. At this stage, people no longer find that alcohol or drug presents a temptation or threat; they have complete confidence that he can cope without fear of relapse.

Jewelry As a Hobby Versus Selling

    Posted on

I currently make jewelry only as a hobby for myself and gifts. I tried selling my pieces of work and discovered a few tips along the way.

My first attempt at selling the jewelry I had made was at a craft and farmer's market where the stall fee was $ 75.00 a day. It was a loss for me as I didn't sell enough to make a profit. When people are strolling through, they just want items for pocket change or small bills in their wallet including food.

Just like prior attempts at selling cosmetics, family and friends will spend their money at stores but if they know you, they want it free. I also do not take requests due to picky people who want unreasonable tasks.

It seems like jewelry repair could be a niche. With the right tools, you could charge a small fee including watch battery replacements. That is something successful at shops. If you can find a supplier, you could replace pearls.

My first frustration was tarnishing silver. There are products for cleaning silver but I can't spend my time polishing hundreds of tiny silver beads. I have stopped using silver or gold-plated beads.

I was going to try having a home party and made about 100 silver beaded necklaces that were really pretty. I packaged them up in gift boxes and stored them. I had a family emergency come up and did not get to try the home party. When I pulled the jewelry out, I was discouraged to find they had all turned black. I would not be able to sell the items looking like that.

When I look at jewelry in stores, I am pleased in confidence that the items I make for myself are of better quality than what I see. It usually costs me about $ 30.00 a set to make real stone and pearl necklaces. I generally do not make much costume jewelry except for glass lamp-work beads.

I have accumulated a nice jewelry wardrobe for myself. I always get compliments. I do purchase some works by others to see if I can duplicate a technique I want to try. It helps to see it in front of me to see how it was made. I can usually figure it out.

I only work with beads large enough to see and keep hold of. Good luck with your jewelry making. The possibilities are endless.

Beauty and Strangeness – Poe's Ligeia

    Posted on

Edgar Allan Poe's Gothic tale "Ligeia" is a study of the supernatural and of feminine beauty. In exploring Ligeia's physical beauty, Poe quotes Elizabethan politician and scholar Francis Bacon: "There's no exquisite beauty," says Bacon, Lord Verulam, speaking truly of all the forms and genera of beauty "without some strangeness in the proportion."

In James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, we find that Stephen Dedalus' translated Aquinas model of beauty using the following words: wholeness, balance, and radiance. 'Balance' is often translated as 'proportion' by others. So, if something is lacking in any of the above three elements, then the beauty observed will be flawed.

In Ligeia, Poe's neurotic and unreliable narrator is determined to find out that 'strangeness' that was so unnerving to him: "I was possessed with a passion to discover." After examining in great detail Ligeia's hair, skin, nose, lips, teeth, smile, chin, and eyes, he concludes that her eyes carry the unmistakable light of strangeness: "They were, I must believe, far larger than the ordinary eyes of our own race. They were fuller than the fullest of the gazelle eyes … "And in the end it is the eyes that convinces him that the revivified corpse is Ligeia and not Lady Rowena Trevanion of Tremaine.

As part of his study of the glittering Russian aristocracy, in Ana Karenina, Leon Tolstoy explored Ana's physical beauty: face, arms, neck, hair, feet, hands, and even her dress and accessories:

"Some supernatural force drew Kitty's eyes to Anna's face. She was fascinating in her simple black dress, fascinating were her round arms with their bracelets, fascinating was her firm neck with its thread of pearls, fascinating the straying curls of her loose hair, fascinating the graceful, light movements of her little feet and hands, fascinating was that lovely face in its eagerness, but there was something terrible and cruel in her fascination. "

But it is not from any particular part that he finds fault in Ana. Nothing is flawed. It is the whole – wholeness of fascination – that gives off the odor of cruelty and strangeness, destroying therefore the balance of her beauty.

Not only did Scott Fitzgerald create a wholesome American beauty in Daisy Buchanan – the belle of the great gatsby– but a mentally challenged and morally flawed american beauty. Understanding doesn't come easy to Daisy, and when she gives an opinion, it is always either a trivial opinion or an inane one that often verges on absurdity. Notice how she deals with one single idea by repeating the same idea three times: "In two weeks it'll be the longest day in the year." She looked at us all radiantly. "Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it." If you count the pronoun "it" you will realize that she has mentioned the longest day of the year five times. And …

Wedding photographs always manage to look good, the question is how to make them better. Everyone wants to have some unique qualities in their wedding photographs which make them different from others.

Following are some of the ideas that can make your desire come to reality.

    Negative Space:

Everywhere the common part of the wedding photographs are the beautiful backdrops but the unique and attractive things can also be found in the places where they are least expected. The negative areas, which could be anywhere in a house which is getting constructed. These places portrays the contrast between the ruin and the new life. These photographs don't only help you in bringing the unique element to your pictures but also make them look attractive.

    Paired photos:

You can also have pictures that can be paired and reserved in a diptych form that shows the continuity of the actions and looks better than the normal posing picture of the couples. Having some different ideas and styles in your wedding photographs will make them beautiful.

    Stolen moments:

The defined moments and the moments that are pre planned can be seen all the time in the wedding photography but the real fun is to be captured unknowingly. Basically the photographer has to be attentive for these shots, the moments that show the affection of the couple for each other and are being captured without the knowledge of the couple. These are the clicks which proves that stealing is not always bad after all.

    The right light:

Light is one of the major component of the photographs and more precisely in this case the wedding photographs. If they used properly and wisely they can make perfect of the pictures but if not then they can spoil the whole wedding photo shoot. Proper lighting can bring reflection and bokeh look also that will make your wedding photographs stunning and the ones that will take all the praises in one go and makes them one of a kind.

    Twisting the shadows:

The silhouettes look like the shadows and often create a romantic outlook of the photograph but shadows are also not the dull looking element in the photographs. Only thing that is required is to mold the shadows in an artistic way and it will make the pictures a brilliant art piece unlike the usual wedding photographs. It brings in the attractive element and will look even better if the mirror effect can be involved too.

    Random clicks during live actions:

Indian weddings are full of rituals that have to be performed and in between many moments of fun and enjoyment takes place.
