Kendall Jenner Brings Quarantine Fashion to a New Level With This Sheer Givenchy Dress

From ELLE

On Friday, Kendall Jenner posted a series of Instagram photos of herself in a sheer Givenchy dress, effectively showing up the rest of our quarantine fashion.

“@matthewmwilliams dressed me up 🤠🤍😌 at home in the new @givenchyofficial by MATT WILLIAMS 🤍 congrats you genius!!!,” she wrote, tagging the Givenchy creative director. “what a beautiful collection.”

Apparently Jenner did an at-home fashion show with this beautiful gown, which she paired with beaded gloves and a glamorous silver necklace. Someone had some fun playing with computer desktop backgrounds, apparently. This is how we have to adapt in 2020:

During the pandemic, Jenner has kept up her fashion game, despite the fact that most big events are canceled indefinitely these days. This summer, she showed off a yellow floral bikini while on a lakefront Idaho vacation with Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber.

“Good bathroom,” she captioned another recent selfie, though we all know this selfie had nothing to do with the bathroom (but the mirror is good).

Her Instagram isn’t just fashion photos these days. Earlier this month, Jenner posted a slideshow of the early-voting dates in each state.

“did you know that in some states you can early vote???,” she wrote. “you don’t have to wait till November 3rd (that’s also my bday and all i want is for you to vote, pleaseeee and thanks) this is the most important election of our lives! early vote if you can!!! i know i’m going to!”

If you think this is just my way of sneaking “make a voting plan” into yet another post, then…you’d be correct.

China: Luxury goods sales rise but European brands are missing out

Posted on

  • Chinese consumers have actually bought more luxury goods during the pandemic, despite global luxury sales falling around 30%.
  • But with travel restrictions in place, Chinese shoppers are buying these products closer to home, and sales are going “through the roof,” according to a McKinsey report.
  • Luxury stores in Europe have reported declining sales – but their Chinese outlets and e-commerce have boomed. Prada’s sales in China jumped 54% in June compared to last year.
  • Chinese consumers are the world’s biggest luxury goods buyers, and most of their luxury goods purchases are made overseas – so future travel restrictions may determine the success of Europe’s luxury goods market, which relies on Chinese tourists.
  • Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories.

The pandemic hasn’t slowed consumer spending on luxury goods — at least not in China.

Three in 10 Chinese consumers spent more than usual on high-end retail between January and July, a poll by UBS Evidence Lab found. This is despite global luxury sales in the first half of 2020 being down around 30%, according to Daniel Zipser, senior partner at McKinsey & Company.

Prada, Dior, and Gucci all reported rising sales in China in 2020, while revenues in other markets often stagnated or even dropped.

Chinese consumers are spending a bigger proportion of their money on luxury retail as spending on tourism dropped during lockdown, UBS reported.

But with international travel restrictions still in place, Chinese shoppers are buying these products closer to home. This means the domestic market in Mainland China is “probably growing stronger than ever before,” Zipser said, adding that sales are going “through the roof.”

Meanwhile, luxury goods shops in Europe are losing out — and analysts say the future of the market on that continent could be shaped by house Chinese buyers act in the coming months and years.

Prior to the pandemic, Chinese consumers made around three-quarters of their luxury goods purchases abroad, Bain & Company reported. The UBS survey found that, because of the travel restrictions, more than three in four Chinese consumers plan to buy luxury goods within Mainland China over the next year — a significant increase from 62% at the same time last year.

During China’s Golden Week from October 1 to 8, when citizens take holiday from work to visit relatives or travel round the country, retail sales rocketed. Duty-free sales on its island province Hainan more than doubled during the week from last year’s holiday, and across the country sales were up nearly 5% as shoppers splashed out on luxury products.

The Chinese government had been pushing this Chinese luxury spend repatriation for a long time by changing duty-free regulations, cutting important tariffs in 2018, and moving GDP towards consumption, Luca Solca, senior research analyst at Bernstein, told Business Insider.

Even before the pandemic happened, Chinese domestic retail spending was expected to grow. Bain & Company estimated that Chinese consumers would make around half of their luxury purchases in the country by 2025.

The Patriots – no matter who has been at quarterback – live on the ground with the most rushing attempts, the second-most rushing yards, and the third most rushing scores. Drew Lock is still on the sidelines with a shoulder problem, and Cam Newton is back for the NASCAR.

Denver doesn’t have enough of a passing game to be a concern considering the ground game is a problem, but the one big issue that should be a killer will be turnovers. The NASCAR have given it up eight times so far and only have taken it away twice, with both of those coming in one game.

The NASCAR isn’t going to give up a thing with the likely Melvin Gordon-less Denver ground game, and there’s not enough to the rest of the offense to worry about.

How is NASCAR going to score? The New England defense might be 11th overall in yards allowed, but it’s got the ability – especially rested – of shutting the Broncos down to a dead stop. Aston Villa remains perfect as Barkley beauty downs Leicester

Leicester City – Aston Villa: Perhaps the most surprising thing that can happen in this wacky Premier League season is nothing, and that’s almost what we saw Sunday when Aston Villa stayed perfect with a 1-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Chelsea loanee Ross Barkley scored a wonderful stoppage-time goal to move Villa to 4-0, one point back of leaders Everton and holding a match-in-hand.

[ MORE: How to watch PL in the USA ]

The hosts were without Jamie Vardy and James Maddison but still would’ve expected better in dropping four points off the top of the table.

Leicester City – Aston Villa saw the league’s second- and third-place sides battle at the KP.

Three things we learned from Leicester City – Aston Villa

1. Foxes, Villans cue Macbeth… until stoppage time: The match actually was pretty entertaining, albeit without that certain substance of final third interest. Call up Shakespeare — William, not former Foxes and current Villa assistant Craig — because the frenetic attacks of both teams were “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Perhaps Vardy would’ve been the difference here. Maybe it’s likely he would’ve. But instead it was Ross Barkley who snatched something out of nothing when given some space to let fly a vicious hit from outside the 18.

2. Goodness, is Grealish exciting?!? Every time Jack Grealish gets the ball, you’ve got hope that something special is going to happen for the occasion. He was all action, with three key passes, four fouls given, and five drawn. Grealish also got stuck into 22 duels. He only won 12, but that’s not bad for an attacker. Villa just couldn’t find bounces like it did against Liverpool.

3. Fofana impresses on debut: Not even 20 years old, Wesley Fofana started his first Premier League match and boy, oh boy, was he very good. The Saint-Etienne product was faced with Grealish’s side of the pitch and etched his name on the Man of the Match Award with a laundry list of audacious stats (read on). Credit to veteran Jonny Evans for helping the youngster in a big spot.

Man of the Match

Here are Fofana’s numbers (via SofaScore. Remember that he’s 19):

  • Nine clearances
  • Six interceptions
  • Three tackles
  • 12-of-16 duels won
  • 83 percent passing

Yup. The real deal on debut.

Leicester City – Aston Villa recap

The chances were at a premium early, a 22nd-minute moment from Kelechi Iheanacho to Timothy Castaigne forcing a good intervention in tight from Villa.

At that point there had been a whopping two shot attempts, both from Leicester City.

Trezeguet missed by a yard after John McGinn and Jack Grealish cued up a prime but challenged chance in the heart of the box.

Women’s Super League: Reading 1-1 Manchester City

Posted on

Manchester City dropped more points in their quest to reclaim the Women’s Super League title as they were held to a draw by battling Reading.

Amelie Eikeland headed in from a corner within three minutes to give the Royals the lead against last season’s runners-up.

City had a chance cleared off the line and found Reading keeper Grace Moloney a tough barrier to beat.

Sam Mewis eventually dragged City level but a further goal eluded them.

Gareth Taylor’s side are now seven points behind leaders Arsenal after just five games, having drawn two and lost one of their opening fixtures.

They fashioned plenty of chances, with Georgia Stanway at the heart of much of their best play, but were unable to take them, with United States international Mewis also denied late on.

Reading boss Kelly Chambers saw her side foil City on numerous occasions as they bounced back from defeat by Birmingham in their previous game.

The blast Saturday ripped through a shopping center in downtown Harrisonburg where businesses included a family owned halal market, a musical instrument store and recording studio and a nail salon and barber shop.

Nearby James Madison University said in a Facebook post that three students from the school’s Army ROTC program who had been participating in a 10-mile race were among the injured. The explosion occurred about 30 yards from the start and finish line for the race, the school said.

Damon Boyd, who was working construction nearby when the blast erupted, told the Daily-News Record he and his crew rushed to the scene.  An injured man on the ground “started hollering that he’s dying,” Boyd said. “It looked like something hit him in the face.”

Although Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted that state emergency personnel had been deployed to the area after what he called a gas explosion, Harrisonburg Fire Chief Matt Tobia said the cause was under investigation.

City spokesman Michael Parks, who said the probe will likely take several days, said there’s no indication of foul play.

One of the injured JMU students was hospitalized but was expected to be quickly released, the university said. Two other students were treated at the scene and released, the school said.

The university said the other two injured people were not affiliated with JMU. City officials said the two others had been flown to the University of Virginia’s medical center in serious condition and were “now stable.”

Pat Doorenbos, who lives about half a mile away, said her house “literally shook” and she feared a plane had crashed or a tanker blew up on Interstate 81.

“I grew up on a farm and I thought to myself ‘That sounds like gas or oil.’ There couldn’t be anything that huge that would shake my house,” she told the Daily News-Record.

JMU sophomore Matthew Jenkins recalled a jolt early Saturday morning.

Washington just gave the Giants a gift. Can they build on their 1st victory?

Posted on

The Giants need this victory, just their 13th in their last 54 games, and they needed it so badly that you could almost squint away what nearly happened at MetLife Stadium.

Almost.

But, well, let’s face it: They were thisclose to dropped a home heartbreaker to a one-win Washington Football team with a woeful Kyle Allen at quarterback. They were thisclose to dropping to 0-6 on the season and, sizing up the schedule, legitimate discussion about when — or even if — they would take that bagel off their record.

They were thisclose to another week focused on a killer Daniel Jones turnover, another game when the offense looked downright Jet-esque, another collapse from a retooled defense that still can’t hold onto leads.

How close?

Washington scored with less than a minute left with a touchdown could/should have tied the game, but Ron Rivera — Riverboat Ron, as he’s called for a reason — decided to go for two. Allen rolled to his left, passed up a chance at running for the conversion, and threw meekly to the turf as the Giants swarmed him.

I get why Rivera would go for it there, given that his offense stinks. But the play call and execution was terrible. This was a gift from Washington. There’s a reason why the team without a nickname is 1-5 after this one.

So are the Giants, but it’s hard to feel much better about them than you did before this 20-19 victory began. Yes, Joe Judge has his first career victory, and that will take the edge off another rough start to the season for this franchise.

But to win, they needed a 43-yard Tae Crowder fumble recovery for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and they needed Rivera’s charity after the defense failed to keep Allen and this Washington offense from answer that mistake with a late touchdown.

So now what? The NFC East is so lousy that the Giants are still in contention for the division title. They need to build on this one now that they enter their easiest stretch of the schedule and prove that it wasn’t a fluke. Because they were thisclose to something ugly.

Here are five observations from the Giants’ game against Washington:

1. RUN, DANIEL, RUN

Daniel Jones, leading rusher, are not four words the Giants wanted to see in the same sentence this season. But with Saquon Barkley’s injury and the struggle to replace the team’s offense star with a productive running back, that was the statistical reality heading into the their sixth game. Jones had a team-high 130 yards.

But that doesn’t mean that Jones’ feet aren’t a weapon that offensive coordinator Jason Garrett needs to use more often, and a perfectly executed 49-yard run in the second quarter is more proof. The play fake to Devonta Freeman was so good that it even fooled Fox’s cameras for several seconds — by the time they caught up, Jones had split three Washington defenders and was off

Global Digital Talents Second Edition Brings Disruption To Fashion Industry

Posted on

Show must go on. This too shall pass. Someone has to be in charge of optimism here! Fashion has always functioned as a litmus test for global social trends. Are the hems going up or down, the belts loosening or tightening, how broad are the shoulders for the current weight of the world? After months of coronavirus lockdowns, the importance of living in the present got us power dressing from the waist up and easing into comfort fabrics 24/7. The future is unpredictable and the bridges to “the way things were” have burned. The current retail crisis has brought a more in-depth understanding on how loudly the fashion system is pleading for a dramatic change. We are increasingly aware of the need to minimize waste, provide fair employment opportunities with livable wages, and prioritize sustainability across the entire design process. Fashion weeks are digitizing their platforms and fashion schools are reinventing the how-to for future generations. Ethical fashion revolution will be livestreamed! For example, the second edition of Global Talents Digital was virtually attended by over seven million visitors. It speaks to the growing interest in fashion alternatives. Powered by the Russian Fashion Council and Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Russia, the event featured 101 designers from 34 countries. From sourcing materials to textile experimentation to indigenous craftsmanship and upcycling design principles, this cohort of visionaries was full of practical ideas redefining, if not disrupting, what fashion was and what it must become in order to survive as an industry in a post-pandemic world. Here are eleven names worth noting with eye towards the unknown yet hopeful future.
