Women In Film’s Hire Her Back Fund Opens Applications

Applications are open for the Hire Her Back Fund, a grant supporting women filmmakers whose careers have been adversely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Members of Women in Film local chapters — WIF Los Angeles, New York Women in Film and Television, and Women in Film and Television Atlanta — are eligible to apply.

“We are grateful to all who have answered the call to support this fund so that we, along with our sister chapters in New York and Atlanta, can provide some relief to the women whose work in our industry has suffered,” WIF Los Angeles executive director Kirsten Schaffer said in a statement. “We hope that the fund can buoy these women and make it more possible to sustain their careers in entertainment.”

The fund is part of the Hire Her Back initiative launched in June, urging employers to fight for gender equality across film and television by implementing inclusive hiring practices when they return to production.

Netflix and ShivHans Pictures CEO Shivani Rawat have contributed to the grant. Members of participating organizations have also donated.

“As production finally resumes after this devastating crisis, we don’t want to take a step backward or lose sight of what progress still needs to be made,” said NYWIFT executive director Cynthia López. “We must always continue to move forward. We look forward to work with our sisters in Women in Film Los Angeles on this important initiative.”

The application is now live on the Actors Fund website. Contributions to the fund can be made here.

This Zombie-Themed Wedding Shoot Proves True Love Never Dies

We’ve all heard of undying love before, but have you ever actually seen it? Photographer Danielle Gwilliam decided to push the boundaries of the traditional wedding vow “till death do us part” and put a haunted Halloween spin in it by creating a chilling zombie-inspired photoshoot. A friend of hers had always wanted to have a Halloween-themed wedding, but since she never had the opportunity, Gwilliam decided to turn her dream into a reality.

Set in a secluded forest in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, the shoot is everything you’d imagine in your wildest nightmares. Black table settings, a stone altar, and Halloween-themed decor made the outdoor venue frighteningly gorgeous. Not a single Halloween detail was missing as the shoot featured everything from large pumpkins and crimson bouquets to skeleton limbs and golden skulls that could be found in every corner. The bride’s white wedding dress was covered in fake blood stains, while her ghostly-white skin was littered with makeup-applied open wounds. Her groom sported a sleek black suit along with a few gorey bruises of his own. As for the wedding cake, it felt only fitting to have the newly-dead wed couple indulge in a zombie’s favorite dish. (It’s a no-brainer to leave the best for last.)

Take a look at the hauntingly beautiful zombie-themed wedding ahead, and let yourself be reminded that true love never really dies.

Trump taps Ivanka for a rescue mission: Win back suburban women

The Trump campaign’s last-ditch effort to win back the suburban women fleeing the president in the polls has fallen to one person: Ivanka Trump.

In the past six weeks, Trump has made personal appeals for her father at 17 campaign stops, engaging in intimate question-and-answer sessions where she tells stories about the president. She’s made stops at local businesses to pose with children in Halloween costumes. She’s bought cider and doughnuts. She’s rolled out bread for baking.

It’s the traditional politicking that is hard to imagine coming from any other Trump family member, let alone President Donald Trump himself. Her brothers, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and her sister-in-law, Lara Trump, are mostly sent out to throw red meat to Trump’s conservative base. So Ivanka Trump has become the de facto head of the eleventh-hour campaign to appeal to swing voters, specifically the white college educated women who helped propel the president’s come-from-behind victory in 2016.

But with polls showing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden winning that slice of women by 20 percentage points or more, it’s a taxing assignment.

“As a working mother who has dedicated her career to the improvement of women’s lives, Ivanka intrinsically understands the issues facing American families today,” said Mercedes Schlapp, a senior adviser for the Trump campaign. “Ivanka Trump can speak to President Trump’s success from the perspective of both a policy adviser and close family member — a remarkably effective combination on the campaign trail.”

Ivanka Trump has visited 10 battleground states — Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona — and expects to campaign in Pennsylvania, Florida and North Carolina again before the election, one Trump political aide said.

She’s also headlined half a dozen virtual rallies and is expected to raise $35 million for her father at a total of nine fundraisers since August, including two in California on Monday, a second Trump political aide said.

Still, political analysts are skeptical that a last-minute attempt to soften the president’s coarse politics will have much of an effect.

“The reality is that women voters are looking at the substance of what’s happened,” said Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. “It’s kind of late, three weeks out, to try suddenly to be having a different tone and tenor. I don’t think she alone can make up for what these women have been seeing the last four years.”

The president has spent nearly four years pushing policies that have not polled well with the voting blocs his daughter is now trying to win over — everything from his crackdown on immigrants crossing the southern border illegally to his uneven response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“In the end, suburban voters generally and suburban women in particular are paying very close attention to what the president is saying and doing, not just recently, but over four years,” Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) said in an interview. “No surrogate can undo

The funny thing about getting married while pregnant is that even though it’s out of the norm, the act of saying ‘I do’ while simultaneously carrying a little one in your womb is among the most romantic things you can do. It solidifies the commitment and makes the ceremony feel even more special. Despite all this, the market for maternity bridalwear is admittedly very sparse and if you’re planning to be pregnant whilst walking down the aisle, there isn’t an abundance of options for you to choose from like there would be if you were sans bun in the oven.

Don’t fret — even if the pool of wedding gowns is smaller for maternity sizing, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some genuinely beautiful dresses available. In fact, upon our research, we found a strong crop of breathtaking bridal wear moments with elegant detailing like lace, tulle, puff sleeves, ruffling, and beyond.

Continue ahead to discover the best maternity wedding dresses to make your big day even more perfect.

Women Voters 50-Plus Could Decide the 2020 Election

“Women have, for a long time, been more worried about retirement security, in part because they’re more worried about being on their own,” says Celinda Lake, a veteran Democratic pollster. In the U.S., on average, women live five years longer than men, according to life expectancy data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Social Security is “of exceptional importance,” says Jean Nofles, 78, of Denver. “It’s a right. It’s something that we have earned, and I hate to see it being played with. Too many older people have that as their sole source of income.”

According to an October report by the New School’s Retirement Equity Lab, older women have faced higher rates of job loss than older men since the beginning of the pandemic. During each month between April and September, the report states, women were 38 percent more likely than men to become unemployed.

The coronavirus has added an extra layer of concern for older women already worried about being able to afford to retire, LeaMond said at a forum on older voters that AARP sponsored this week with The Hill newspaper. Women, she said, are not only “being paid less in jobs than their male counterparts” but also are often the ones in the family who take more time out of the workforce to care for children or parents.

AARP’s polls reflect women’s economic concerns. When it comes to fears about Social Security, women are more worried than men about benefits being cut: 78 percent versus 64 percent in Arizona; 80 percent versus 61 percent in Wisconsin. Women are also more anxious about being able to afford to retire. In Michigan, 84 percent of women reported being worried, compared with 60 percent of men; in Wisconsin, it’s 63 percent of women versus 50 percent of men.

Bengals’ Auden Tate: Practices in limited fashion

Tate (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.

Tate logged two limited sessions to cap off last week’s set of practices, but he was ultimately ruled out for Sunday’s loss to the Colts. It’s encouraging that he’s on the field to begin the week ahead of this Sunday’s matchup against the Browns. Even if he returns to action, he’s buried on the depth chart with A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins commanding most of the reps in three-wide sets.
