Liza Koshy One of One C’est Moi Beauty Interview

Liza Koshy has been a brand ambassador for C’est Moi since 2019, but this November, she’s launching her own capsule collection of skin-care and makeup products called One of One by C’est Moi. Although Koshy is an entertainer first and foremost, if you’re one of the 18.7 million people who follow her on social media, then you know she also moonlights as a beauty influencer. In between trying out the latest viral challenge and sharing new dance videos, Koshy likes to put her makeup skills to the test with various bold looks, and we think we can all agree: she’s really good at it.

The launch of her beauty line, One of One by C’est Moi, comes from her existing love for all things clean beauty and self-expression. “I’ve definitely been super experimental with my makeup during this pandemic and quarantine,” Koshy told POPSUGAR. “I’m doing it to make myself feel good, try something new, and feel and look confident while doing it. That’s the whole messaging around the brand is that it’s this party of one — and you’re invited to the celebration yourself.”

Shawn Mendes Reveals the “Best Gift” He Received During Quarantine

There’s nothing holding Shawn Mendes back during quarantine.

At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the singer was faced with a lot of uncertainty when it came to touring and making new music. But in an exclusive sneak peek of his sit-down interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Shawn is opening up about the silver lining he found as he took time to slow down.

“The pandemic that’s happening and the isolation and the quarantine has been terrifying and really hard, but something really beautiful for me came out of it, which was you’re not allowed to leave,” the 22-year-old explained. “Stillness.”

“I went to Miami and I was living with Camila [Cabello] and her parents and her sister and I was in panic for the first week being like there’s no way I’m going to make an album,” Shawn continued. “And then when I started to settle in to how nice it is to be in the same place every night, to have a movie time, to cook dinner with the family and to do laundry. I know it sounds really kind of silly but when you’ve been touring the world since you’re 15 years old, like, I don’t remember the last time I smelled laundry. It’s a nice smell. It’s a really calming smell. It feels like growing up.”

It also allowed for the Grammy winner to get creative and start from scratch on a brand-new album.

Durham frontline workers win free dream wedding from Cates Farm in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) — Cates Farm, a wedding venue in rural Orange County, teamed up with vendors to offer a free wedding to two frontline workers from the Triangle.

In October, during a tour of the farm, bride-to-be Jennifer McClay told owner John Cates about her plans to resurrect her wedding, which was originally scheduled for May.

“John says, ‘Hey, what do you do for a living?'”, said McClay, “And I said, ‘I work in the emergency room and Steve’s a paramedic.’ He’s like, ‘No way. Okay, so we’re doing a contest.'”

In January 2020, McClay found her dress at a Raleigh shop for her May wedding.

“They said, “Listen, there’s something occurring in China. We don’t know what’s happening. But the dress is going to be shipped from there and it’s going to be late. And there’s no way possible that we’re going to get it for May,'” McClay said.

Little did McClay or her fiancé Steve Gustafson know that the “something occurring in China” would have a huge impact on their lives.

By late April, their wedding venue was shuttered. They couldn’t even get in touch with some of the vendors and ended up losing thousands in deposits.

Gustafson recalled feeling helpless. “There was nothing I could do about it,” he said. “There’s no sense in getting angry over something I can’t do. I can’t control it. I just was worried about her because she was upset and depressed.”

By then, Gustafson was working crazy shifts on the front line with other firefighters and paramedics.

McClay and her colleagues at Duke Hospital were right there on the front lines too.

One of those colleagues, Hannah Bentley, was with McClay on the October tour of Cates Farm.

After Bentley heard John Cates mention the contest–a free wedding for frontline workers–she went into full-bulldog mode.

“Hannah on the way home was like, ‘We’ve got this. I’m starting this tonight, Jennifer. You have to know that this is for you. This going to be your one good thing out of 2020,'” McClay said.

Bentley’s letter wowed all the vendors, and Gustafson and McClay’s interview with Cates and his wife sealed the deal when Cates’ wife ended up in tears.

“To hear Steve, honestly, talk about how much he loves her and how much she puts herself on the line every day,” Jennifer Cates said. “And to hear her talk about how hard Steve works, then it was, ‘Okay, that’s easy!'”

So on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, a caterer, an adult beverage truck, flowers, golf carts, rental tables and chairs, a make-up artist, a photographer, a D.J., and a live band, will all show up at Cates Farm.

And McClay and Gustafson will have a dream wedding better than the one they had originally planned–at no cost to the Durham couple.

NBC News Shopping readers have shown a keen interest in at-home workouts —from spinning on indoor exercise bikes and sweating it out on treadmills to experimenting with TRX suspension exercises and swinging kettlebells. If you’re feeling the pressure to spend more time at home to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 or simply weary of impending winter weather, you may be looking to modify your outdoor workouts for the indoors (again). One easy-to-store alternative that costs significantly less than its full-sized cousin is an under-desk elliptical.

As its name suggests, an under-desk elliptical fits neatly under your desk (or dining room table). While seated, you can pedal away to burn calories. Given its smaller size, an under-desk elliptical doesn’t come with the front arm-grips to help tone your upper body, but it also doesn’t come with the added price of larger ellipticals, which can easily cost upwards of $1,000 for mid-range models. Top-of-the-line under-desk ellipticals typically cost no more than $350, such as the Cubii Pro, and you can find plenty of options between $100 and $130 across a plethora of reader-favorite retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Kohl’s. You can also purchase under-desk ellipticals at Dick’s Sporting Goods and QVC.

When shopping for an under-desk elliptical, readers should consider three things, said Anthony Crouchelli, a master and founding trainer at GRIT Bxng in New York: size, space and sound. If you’re using an under-desk elliptical while working from home or at the office, be mindful of the noise it could cause and distract coworkers (or your loved ones). And don’t forget to measure your under-desk space before purchasing your machine, so you can make sure it fits and that you’re able to tuck it away when not in use. To make the most of your new under-desk elliptical, Crouchelli advised dedicating at least 15 to 20 minutes of working out on the device daily. “Adding intervals and resistance to your workouts are only going to increase their cardiovascular health,” he noted.

Can you lose weight with an under-desk elliptical? “Absolutely,” Crouchelli said. “These devices at the top tiers come with a plethora of options regarding resistance, inclines and more to maximize these under-desk workouts,” he said. “The reality is that these are great for low impact workouts, which still have a huge factor in your health.” Crouchelli added that you won’t burn as many calories in the same timeframe as you would on a traditional elliptical machine. However, under-desk ellipticals are “great” for those who may need to regulate blood sugar levels or tone their legs and are “excellent” for joint circulation and joint mobility. If you’re interested in shopping for an under-desk elliptical as a holiday gift or

Does vaccine promise put U.S. consumers in a shopping mood? Retailers may have clues

By Caroline Valetkevitch

NEW YORK, Nov 16 (Reuters) – As positive coronavirus vaccine
news makes strategists more optimistic about the future for
retailers, investors will look to earnings results and forecasts
from these companies in the coming days for clues about consumer
spending.

The thinking is that effective vaccines will “translate
into positive performances for discretionary,” said Sam Stovall,
chief investment strategist for CFRA, which recently raised its
recommendation on the S&P 500 consumer discretionary sector

The pandemic and restrictions on businesses have added to
revenue struggles for some traditional retailers like department
stores while boosting sales for Amazon and other
sellers that have capitalized on the work-from-home phenomenon.
Results from Home Depot Inc. , Walmart Inc. and
Kohl’s Corp. are due on Tuesday, while reports from
Macy’s Inc. , L Brands , Target Corp. and TJX
Cos are expected later this week.

The U.S. retail sales report for October also is due on
Tuesday.

Investors will be especially eager to hear guidance and
commentary from retail executives on consumer spending.

“We’ve gotten used to now buying online increasingly and
delivery has become smoother,” said Quincy Krosby, chief market
strategist at Prudential Financial in Newark, New Jersey. “The
question is, does it continue?”

Shares in a number of retailers rallied on Monday as a
result of optimism that a COVID-19 vaccine will help the
economic recovery in the months ahead.

Moderna Inc said its experimental vaccine was
94.5% effective in preventing COVID-19 based on interim data
from a late-stage trial. Pfizer Inc said last week its
experimental COVID-19 vaccine was more than 90% effective based
on initial trial results.

Among the biggest percentage gainers in the S&P 500 consumer
discretionary index on Monday were Gap Inc. , up 9.5%;
Under Armour , up 5.8%; and Ulta Beauty , up
4.9%.

Investors also are watching whether upcoming holiday sales
data can support hopes for retailer shares despite a surge in
COVID cases and increased restrictions across the United States
and in Europe.

“As long as the jobs market holds up and we see
(unemployment benefit claims) continuing to go down, that helps
consumers’ optimism,” said Krosby.

Some retailers’ shares remain down sharply this year so far,
including Macy’s, which is off more than 50% since Dec. 31
despite a 9% gain on Monday as the pandemic added to their
recent struggles.

On the earnings front, there continues to be a big divide
within the consumer discretionary sector.

Analysts expect the sector to post an earnings decline of
5.1% for the third quarter from a year ago, compared with a 7.4%
decline for the entire S&P 500 , according to IBES data
from Refinitiv.

But earnings for internet and direct marketing retail
companies are show about a 43% rise in the quarter, while
apparel retail earnings are forecast to fall 40.1%.

Nordstrom Inc , Gap Inc and American Eagle
Outfitters Inc report earnings next week.

Lettie Pate Evans Foundation Grants $500,000 for Infrastructure.

The Atlanta Opera has announced that the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation has granted it $500,000 towards building the company’s digital media and technology capacity. The grant enables the opera to pursue its goals of creating film and special web-based project content to reach global audiences. It also allows the opera to purchase cutting edge equipment for live productions.

Tomer Zvulun, Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. General and Artistic Director, says, “To have the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation deepen their investment in The Atlanta Opera through this gift…it’s a vote of confidence and demonstrates their belief in the opera as a long-term asset to our community.”

The Atlanta Opera is currently filming its two fall productions of Pagliacci and The Kaiser of Atlantis, featuring The Atlanta Opera’s Company and Glynn Studio Players. In August, the opera invested substantially in equipment for a digital media studio to support creation of digital performances throughout the innovative 2020-21 “Big Tent” season and into the future.

“We are thrilled to have the support of the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation,” said Ashley Mirakian, Chief of Marketing and Audience Development. Mirakian, who also heads the digital media department of The Atlanta Opera, added, “This investment is a rocket booster to our film infrastructure, and our audience will definitely appreciate the exceptional cinematic quality this gift makes possible.”

The opera will announce the launch of its digital platform in the coming weeks, following the success of its fall Big Tent live productions. Four weeks of critically-acclaimed performances of Pagliacci and The Kaiser of Atlantis conclude Sunday, November 15.

About The Atlanta Opera

The Atlanta Opera’s mission is to build the major international opera company Atlanta deserves, with a vision to reimagine opera.

Founded in 1979, The Atlanta Opera celebrates its 40th anniversary in the 2019-20 season. The Opera works with world-renowned singers, conductors, directors, and designers who seek to enhance the art form.

Under the leadership of internationally recognized stage director and Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. General & Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun, The Atlanta Opera expanded from three to four mainstage productions at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and launched the acclaimed Discoveries series. In recent years, the company was recognized by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as part of its “Best of 2015” awards; it was nominated for an International Opera Award in 2016; and it won ArtsATL’s 2019 Luminary Award for Community Engagement, recognizing its successful Veterans Program in partnership with The Home Depot Foundation.

In addition, The Opera was featured in a 2018 Harvard Business School case study about successful organizational growth, and Zvulun presented a TEDx Talk at Emory University entitled “The Ambidextrous Opera Company, or Opera in the Age of iPhones.”

Doja Cat Unveils First Fashion Collaboration With PrettyLittleThing

Doja Cat’s creativity has leaked into the world of fashion.

On Monday, the entertainer launched a new fashion collaboration with PrettyLittleThing nearly a week after announcing the partnership.

Doja Cat curated the collection so that it matches her signature, eclectic style. The pieces also keep with the times as they are made to complement a post-coronavirus lockdown world.

“This was my first time curating for a fashion brand, period! I love PrettyLittleThing and can’t wait for all my fans to see it and wear it,” Doja Cat said in an official statement. She also teased that this collaboration won’t be her only venture into the fashion industry.

“It was so much fun creating with [PrettyLittleThing CEO] Umar [Kamani] and the team,” she added. “They really let me channel the essence of who I am into this collection. Wait until you see what’s next!”

Umar Kamani explains that the collaboration with Doja Cat made fit perfectly with the brand because her unique style appeals to the PrettyLittleThing customer.

“I’m so excited to be working with such a credible artist on this new collection,” Kamani said. “I’ve admired Doja Cat and her career for a very long time and we’ve been working closely with her to bring her unique style to the PrettyLittleThing customer. This is just the first collaboration and we have lots more to come throughout the partnership.”

Indonesian govt criticised for letting wedding proceed, SE Asia News & Top Stories

The Indonesian government has come under fire for allowing a massive wedding party to take place over the weekend amid tight social distancing rules in the capital – a coronavirus red zone.

The wedding involved the daughter of Mr Rizieq Shihab, the controversial leader of a vigilante group called the Islamic Defenders Front or FPI.

The Jakarta government’s decision after the event to impose a 50 million rupiah (S$4,800) fine on the family has met with harsh criticism from epidemiologists.

“Monetary fines are not enough. Next time, the government should prevent such congregations… Officials should disperse them before a crowd is formed,” said Dr Iwan Ariawan, an epidemiologist at the University of Indonesia.

Another epidemiologist, Dr Pandu Riono, said Mr Rizieq’s public gathering boiled down to the national government being negligent in not anticipating mass rallies that the controversial leader had often been associated with in the past.

“He should have been told (before his return to Indonesia) to refrain from organising any crowd because we are in a pandemic. He may do so if the pandemic is over,” Dr Pandu told The Straits Times.

Last Saturday night, thousands of guests and supporters of Mr Rizieq descended on his home in Central Jakarta. He had returned home last Tuesday from a nearly three-year self-exile in Saudi Arabia to avoid a legal problem in Indonesia. The case has since been dropped by the government.

His daughter’s wedding was held jointly with a celebration to commemorate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, according to FPI.

Mr Rizieq, who three years ago was accused of sending pornographic chat messages and insulting Indonesia’s state ideology Pancasila, boasts thousands of supporters in Jakarta and other Indonesian cities. The FPI supporters are very vocal and are easily mobilised to protest on the streets.

And Mr Rizeiq himself, 55, has been a vocal critic of President Joko Widodo.

But Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has enjoyed Mr Rizieq’s support and benefited from the FPI-organised mass rallies against the city’s then governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, who was defeated by Mr Anies in the 2017 election. Mr Basuki is an ethnic Chinese and a Christian. Mr Anies has been widely reported to have played the religion card to win the gubernatorial election three years ago.

Jakarta is under strict social curbs called PSBB, the equivalent of a semi-lockdown, in which gatherings are limited to five people, and restaurant occupancy capped at 50 per cent of capacity.

Indonesia’s coronavirus tally hit 470,648 yesterday, the highest in South-east Asia. There have been 15,296 deaths, also the highest in the region. Jakarta is among the worst affected.

Dr Pandu has expressed his concern that the police and the national government failed to preempt the thousands of people marching to the country’s main international airport to welcome Mr Rizieq home. The crowds created severe traffic jams that in turn caused flights to be

5 Tips for Shopping on Cyber Monday

When we talk about major shopping events during the holiday season, we tend to think of Black Friday — a day when crowds flock to the stores at the crack of dawn in the hopes of scoring the best deals possible. But there’s another huge shopping event to capitalize on during the holidays — Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday is, to a large degree, Black Friday’s calmer, more civilized counterpart. Since all of it happens online, there’s no need for shoving at the checkout aisle. You simply log onto your laptop or phone from the comfort of home and point and click your way to a collection of deals. But making the most of Cyber Monday still requires some careful planning. Here are some tips for navigating it.

1. Set a budget

When you do your shopping in stores, you have the option to bring only cash with you and leave your credit cards at home, eliminating the temptation to go overboard. But when you do your shopping online, cash won’t work, so you’ll need to be very careful to avoid landing in debt. That’s why setting a Cyber Monday budget is so important. Figure out how much you can comfortably afford to spend throughout the day and then keep tabs on your purchases to ensure you stick to that number. Otherwise, you could wind up with a dangerously high credit card balance by the time the big event wraps up.

2. Fill and save your carts ahead of time

Chances are, a lot of the items on your shopping list will go on sale during Cyber Monday, so loading shopping carts with those items on your go-to retail sites is good to do in advance. That way, you’ll get to see how much prices fall on Cyber Monday, and you’ll know whether you’re getting a good deal or not. You’ll also be able to compare carts at different sites to see which prices are the most competitive.

3. Check the timing of deals

Some retailers will drop different deals at different times during Cyber Monday. Try to figure out when those deals will be made available ahead of time so you don’t miss out. Also, since Cyber Monday falls on, well, a Monday, it means you’ll probably need to balance your online shopping with work. Having a schedule will help you land the deals you want without falling behind on the job and angering your boss in the process.

4. Limit yourself to just a few retail sites

On a day like Cyber Monday, it’s natural to want to snag the best deals. But if you attempt to shop on too many websites, you might end up losing focus, missing out on bargains, and going beyond your budget. A good bet is to limit yourself to
