Best Black Friday 2020 deals: Oculus Quest 2, iPhone 12, AirPods Pro, Xbox gift card and more

This story is part of Holiday Gift Guide 2020, CNET’s gift picks with expert advice, reviews and recommendations for the latest tech gifts for you and your family.

Black Friday 2020 is upon us, with countless Black Friday deals available now from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and pretty much every store that sells things. One exciting today-only, while-supplies-last addition to the lineup: The super-hot Oculus Quest 2 VR headset. It’s not discounted, but there’s a gift card in it for you. See below.

As you might expect, many of the best deals are selling out quickly, while others won’t ship for a week or two. In the case of Best Buy’s iPad sale (including the iPad 10.2 for $280), you’ll need to find a local store that has them in stock. In better news, while the famed $169 AirPods Pro are sold out at Walmart, Amazon has the AirPods Pro for $170. They’re currently listed as “temporarily out of stock,” but you can purchase them at that price and get delivery once stock is replenished.

We’ve been sifting through these and other sales to find the cream of the crop, which we’ve gathered below. Note that a few of the previously “expired” deals we kept at the bottom have resurfaced, which is why we recommend keeping this post bookmarked and checking it often for updates.

Visible, which runs on Verizon’s network, is sweetening its iPhone 12 deals: When you buy an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, you’ll get a free pair of AirPods Pro. Those are worth $249 (though as you’ll see below, they’re currently on sale for $170).

What’s more, although the phones themselves are priced a few dollars higher than what Apple charges, you get a fairly substantial rebate (in the form of a prepaid Mastercard): $100 for the Mini, $150 for the iPhone 12 and Pro, $200 for the Pro Max.

Meanwhile, Visible charges a flat rate of $40 a month for unlimited service, or you can take advantage of their Party Pay option for rates as low as $25.

Scott Stein/CNET

The new Oculus VR headset is among my favorite products of 2020. Deals are all but impossible to come by; just finding it in stock is a challenge. So if you’re thinking of getting one, don’t miss this Newegg offer, which includes a $15 gift card (delivered electronically after your purchase).

How great is the Quest 2? CNET’s Scott Stein thinks you should skip buying a new Xbox or PlayStation and get this instead. To learn more, read his Oculus Quest 2 review.

Pretty straightforward: Add this $100 gift card to your cart, apply promo code 23BKFCYMB63, check out for $88. (Note that you need a Newegg account in order to use this or any other code.) The card is delivered electronically.

Deals: OnePlus 8T $629, AirPods Pro are $190, Anker accessories, more

Today’s best deals include the OnePlus 8T at $629, AirPods Pro $190, Anker accessories, and more. Head below for all of that in today’s 9to5Toys Lunch Break.

OnePlus 8T with four cameras is down to $629

Today only, B&H offers the OnePlus 8T 256GB Unlocked Android Smartphone for $629. As a comparison, it typically fetches $749 at retailers like Amazon, and this is just the second discount we’ve tracked. The OnePlus 8T delivers a 6.55-inch AMOLED display that’s backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset. Other notable features here include the quad-camera backside array, which includes 48, 12, 5, and 16MP lenses. This model is Dual-SIM compatible and is made for GSM + CDMA/4G LTE networks here in the United States.

AirPods Pro offer ‘Hey Siri,’ stellar ANC, more

Woot offers Apple’s AirPods Pro for $190. As a comparison, these wireless in-ears typically sell for $249. Today’s deal is $5 less than our previous mention. We are expecting to see these earbuds fall to around $170 during Black Friday.

Apple’s AirPods Pro arrives with Active Noise Cancellation, Hey Siri support, and up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. Not to mention, they are sweat- and water-resistant, so you can enjoy them during workouts and more.

Anker sale offers accessories for Android

A fresh batch of Anker deals has cropped up at Amazon today highlighted by the 2-in-1 PowerWave+ Pad for smartphones and Apple Watch at $35. This is the model that includes a power block and charging cable with purchase. Regularly $50, today’s deal is the second-best offer we’ve tracked on this bundle. The built-in Qi pad offers 7.5W of power, but you will need to provide an Apple Watch charging puck. Ships with a wall power block and microUSB cable.

Samsung’s 11-inch Chromebook 4 is $199

Walmart is currently offering the Samsung 11-inch Chromebook 4 1.1GHz/4GB/32GB for $199. Typically fetching $230, like you’ll find at B&H right now, today’s offer is matching our previous mention for the all-time low. With an all-metal body, Samsung’s 11-inch Chromebook 4 delivers a more durable package compared to other Chrome OS machines alongside a robust “military-grade” design. Notable features like 12.5-hour battery life, built-in Google Assistant, and USB-C charging are complemented by 4GB of RAM and 32GB of solid-state storage.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A at $199

B&H currently offers the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1-inch 128GB Android Tablet for $199. Usually selling for $300, today’s offer saves you 33% and matches our previous mention for the all-time low. For comparison, this is also $32 less than what the 64GB model goes for. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A delivers a 10.1-inch full HD display alongside built-in Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers, up to 10-hours of battery life per charge, and more. While this model comes equipped with 128GB of storage, a microSD card slot allows for up to 512GB of expansion.

3 Best AirPods Pro Alternatives Under $200

  • Apple’s AirPods Pro are great audio accessories, but they are expensive
  • There are many great alternatives, with some selling for prices well below the $200 mark
  • These include the Mpow X3, Bose Sport Earbuds and Amazon Echo Buds

Apple’s AirPods Pro are great audio accessories for those who are invested in the Cupertino tech giant’s ecosystem. They offer good sound quality, have great active noise canceling and transparency features and are perfect for those who use multiple iDevices such as iPhones, iPads and MacBooks.

That said, the highly-rated AirPods Pro costs a lot. They normally sell for $250 per pair, which means not everyone can afford them. And while some outlets sell them with discounts from time to time, it’s still a fact that they are expensive and beyond the reach of the average person.

Thankfully, Apple is not the only company making great-sounding wireless earbuds. Some AirPods pro alternatives offer great audio quality, provide excellent noise cancellation, or at least noise reduction features, and come in different colors.

Here are some of the best wireless earbuds that sell for less than $200 a pair.

Amazon Echo Buds

Amazon jumped into the wireless earbuds market with the Echo Buds, a cheap pair of in-ear headphones equipped with Alexa. These are currently being sold for $130 via Amazon.

These buds do not offer noise cancellation, but they do feature Bose’s noise reduction technologies. This means users will get to enjoy the same level of quiet and focus on music without having to pay the amount Bose’s headphones normally cost.

Bose Sport Earbuds

Speaking of Bose, the famed audio company also has an affordable but formidable pair of wireless earbuds under $200 – the new Sport Earbuds. This device does not have active noise cancellation, but it offers Bose’s signature audio, which means users will still be able to listen to great-sounding music anyway.

Bose designed the Sport Earbuds to stay in place so that wearers won’t have to worry about them falling off while running or jogging. They are available via Bose’s website for $179.95.

Mpow X3

Those looking for noise cancellation but can’t afford the AirPods Pro or even the Echo Buds can get these earbuds instead, CNet noted. They look like the AirPods Pro (but in black), offer good sound output, have active noise cancellation and retail for only $60 via Amazon.

Apple AirPods Pro are the ideal luxe tech Christmas gift

Apple’s AirPods Pro are one of those gadgets that people may be hesitant to splash the cash on themselves, but would love to receive, making them the perfect Christmas present. The in-ear earphones are Apple’s latest and are designed to make music, podcasts and phone calls clearer thanks to noise-cancelling tech, (which you don’t get with the basic AirPods).

a woman talking on a cell phone: Apple AirPods Pro

Apple AirPods Pro

The gadgets include the company’s H1 chip, enabling low audio processing latency and real-noise cancellation, which basically means music sounds better. They have a new shape too, designed for comfort, fit and stability.

Just like the standard AirPods, they can be charged wirelessly and offer 4.5-hours of listening time on a single charge, or 1-hour on just 5 mins of charging, making them brilliant for the super busy people we all know. If that’s not enough, you can also have them engraved free of charge, for a personal and thoughtful gift.

Who’s it for?

Busy workers: Workers who commute on public transport (in normal times) and those who work from home would love a pair of AirPods Pro. The noise-cancelling feature would be handy in a busy office, or when trying to block out family sounds when they are trying to focus on a task for work. The gadget’s voice controls would be useful too.

Runners: The ability to switch between the noise-cancelling mode and transparency mode is really useful for anyone who runs or exercises outside, as they will be able to choose to hear traffic when crossing a busy road, for example, while the customisable fit of the AirPods will keep them happy too by not falling out every five minutes!

Music lovers: Anyone who is into their music in a big way is always on the hunt for the beat speakers or headphones to do their favourite tunes justice. The AirPod Pro’s active noise cancelling tech promises to give music more depth and block out annoying noises from the outside world.

Age range:

There’s no official age range for the Apple AirPods Pro, but at almost £250 they are probably a gift for grownups who will look after them well!

What makes it the perfect gift?

Clearer sound: The big difference between Apple’s popular AirPods and the AirPods Pro is noise cancellation technology for clearer sound. These are in fact the only in-ear headphones with active noise cancellation that adapts to the geometry of the ear 200 times a second. They work by using an outward-facing microphone to detect external sound, which they counter with equal anti-noise, cancelling annoying disruptions for clearer music, a more relaxing workout or a more focused workday.

Customisable fit: For any fitness fanatic, the fit of wireless headphones is upper important, because there’s nothing more annoying than them continually falling out during a workout. The Airpods Pro model comes with three sizes of soft silicone tips so users can pick the best one for their ears. The tips form a seal on the ear, keeping

Apple Envisions Future Concepts for MagSafe Accessories to include an Application for AirPods & an iPad Smart Cover

On October 01, twelve days prior to the iPhone 12 event, Patently Apple posted a patent report on future accessories. One of the future accessories touched on iPhone folios with magnets. Our reported noted that “patent FIG. 1, the target #126 is a magnet that emits an external magnetic field that is detectable by a magnetic field sensor. The accessory device may include an inductive charging coil designed to supply power to the internal power supply 128, or other devices of the accessory device that require power.”

2 iPhone accessories supporting MagSafe

Yesterday, just days after the iPhone 12 event, a far more descriptive accessories patent was published by the US Patent & Trademark Office that reflects MagSafe in a clearer fashion, though it’s an extension of the October 01 Apple patent filing.

Future MagSafe Accessory Concepts

Apple’s Patent FIG. 4 below illustrates a MagSafe accessory attached to the back of an iPhone that provides a power supply (#186) with an inductive charging module (#192); Patent FIGS. 2 and 5 illustrate a power supply covering the total back of an iPhone and within a folio on the flap opposite the iPhone.

3 Apple MagSafe Accessory concepts

In Apple’s patent FIG. 7 below we see the power supply on the outside of folio and FIG. 11 include both a power supply and an inductive charging module.

4 Magsafe accessory concepts

Apple’s patent FIGS. 13 and 14 below Apple illustrates two ways that a MagSafe accessory could accommodate AirPods.

5 MagSafe Accessories

And lastly, Apple’s patent FIGS. 15 and 16 below illustrate triple MagSafe Power Supply strips added to the inside of a future Smart iPad cover.

6 MagSafe iPad Cover Accessory with added power supply

Apple’s patent application number 20200328605 that was published yesterday by the U.S. Patent Office was filed back Q3 2019. Considering that this is a patent application, the timing of new MagSafe accessories coming to market is unknown at this time.

AirPods Pro on Your Shopping List? Now Is the Time to Buy Them

Digital Trends may earn a commission when you buy through links on our site.

Amazon Prime Day is over, and so are a lot of the biggest deals. But there are still a lot of deals to choose from if you’re looking to snag a bargain. One of the biggest bargains we’ve come across are for Apple’s AirPods Pro. We saw them drop to their lowest ever price on Prime Day, and it hasn’t dropped since. As a result, if you act quickly, you can still grab them at this best ever price.

Apple’s iconic earbuds are the true wireless headphones to buy if you want to complement your iPhone with some truly seamless tech. The AirPods Pro differ from the standard AirPods by adding a silicon tip to the buds (removing the old EarPods style the AirPods were saddled with) and the new addition of active noise cancelation (ANC). ANC can be used in two ways — either to shut out all noise outside of your buds, or to let in the surrounding noise, which means you can hear the bicycle bell behind you while you have your buds in.

The sound is exceptional, but the battery does suffer a little when compared to other true wireless buds on the market. You’ll get between 4.5 and 5 hours of listening time per charge, but the wireless charging case comes with an extra 24 hours of charge, which does go some way to removing battery anxiety. Siri is always available, and can be used to pause music or call contacts. Best of all, you don’t need an iPhone to take advantage of the AirPods Pro’s advanced features, and they will work with Android phones as well.

Is this worth picking up now? Absolutely. Apple’s AirPods Pro are a style statement for many, and the chance to pick some up for their lowest ever price is going to be a no brainer. But be quick to jump on this sale now, because stock is flying out fast and shipping dates are being pushed back as a result, so grab them fast if you want them in your hands before the holidays.

After some cheaper true wireless earbuds? There are plenty of other AirPods deals happening now.

We strive to help our readers find the best deals on quality products and services, and we choose what we cover carefully and independently. The prices, details, and availability of the products and deals in this post may be subject to change at anytime. Be sure to check that they are still in effect before making a purchase.
