MLB rumors: Rays shopping Blake Snell; Will Yankees pry ace from rival?

It hasn’t been a month yet since the Tampa Bay Rays lost the World Series and already GM Erik Neander is blowing up his pennant-winning roster to cut payroll.

Been there, done that. But unlike the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners and other small-market teams that tend to pile up losing season after losing season, the Rays always seem to find a way to either stay very competitive or contend while playing in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox.

So far this offseason, the Rays have declined club options on pitcher Charlie Morton ($15 million) and catcher Mike Zunino ($4.5M) plus outfielder Hunter Renfroe ($3.3M prorated to $1.2M in 2020) was designated for assignment heading into his second year of salary arbitration.

The next to go could be the Rays’ highest-paid player, ace left-hander Blake Snell.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, “the Rays have told other clubs that they’re open to the idea of trading Snell” because moving the 2018 AL Young winner “represents the club’s best chance to create some much-needed flexibility.”

Can the Yanks get Snell, who has three seasons and $39 million remaining on his five-year, $50-million contract?

It’s highly unlikely that two division foes that became hated rivals in the last few years would engage in a blockbuster deal, but Snell definitely would be a great fit in the Yankees’ rotation and they have plenty of young talent to offer Tampa Bay.

What would it take for the Yanks to pique the Rays’ interest?

Probably a lot more than GM Brian Cashman would be willing to give up.

An NL executive told MLB.com that Snell “would bring back a massive return.”

Remember, the Rays have a reputation of winning trades, and in July 2018 they made one of the all-time steals acquiring young-gun starting pitching Tyler Glasnow, outfielder Austin Meadows and touted pitching prospect Shane Baz for veteran starting pitcher Chris Archer.

If that’s what it took for the Rays to part with Archer, who isn’t in Snell’s class, they’d probably ask for Deivi Garcia, Clint Frazier and Clark Schmidt for Snell. All three Yanks were untouchable last summer when Cashman stayed pat instead of trading for starting pitchers Mike Clevinger and Lance Lynn before the Aug. 31 deadline.

Bottom line: Snell, who turns 28 on Dec. 4, surely will be moved elsewhere if he’s moved at all. And if he’s traded, it’ll further weaken the Rays, who won the AL East last season with a 40-20 record before ousting the Yanks in the playoffs in Game 5 of a best-of-five ALDS.

Possible suitors for Snell that could affect the Yanks include the Houston Astros, who may be looking to rebuild their once-stellar rotation. Gerrit Cole left Houston as a free agent after the 2019 season to sign with the Yanks and fellow ace Justin Verlander will miss the 2021 season recovering from Tommy John

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani Reportedly Don’t Want a Big Wedding

From House Beautiful

  • Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani announced their engagement on Oct. 27.

  • They reportedly do not want a big wedding and it will likely be a “family affair.”

  • The couple is considering marrying “during COVID, if need be.”

Since announcing their engagement on Oct. 27, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani haven’t shared plans for a ceremony. However, a source recently told People that “neither want a big wedding,” especially if they end up tying the knot during the pandemic. The source added that the nuptials will likely take place in front of a small family circle, sooner rather than later.

The couple kept the big news private for a few days before telling the world in an Instagram photo taken inside a chapel Shelton built for Stefani on his Oklahoma ranch, per Hollywood Life. “Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!” Shelton captioned his post. Stefani shared the same pic, writing, “@blakeshelton yes please! 💍🙏🏻”

“He felt it would be really special to propose there,” a source told Hollywood Life, referring to the chapel. “He built [it] for Gwen because she is a very devout Catholic and he wanted to make her feel comfortable with her transition from L.A. to Oklahoma.”

The publication reaffirmed People’s report that the pair is considering marrying “during COVID, if need be.” If they do end up waiting until it’s safe to have a bigger celebration, it will be a “family affair” regardless, with the involvement of Stafani’s sons, Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6. Shelton has become an influential figure in their lives in his five years with Stefani, and reportedly asked for their permission before proposing.

“Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and asked their permission,” People’s source revealed. “Her family very much approves of him. He’s an amazing partner and a great extra dad to the boys.” Stefani even gave the country star a shoutout on Father’s Day, writing on Instagram, “Thank u for helping me raise these boys!”

The two musicians found each other on The Voice after navigating heartbreaking divorces, which made their union feel meant to be. “I think both of us know that the timing and the way that she and I met and it came together and just felt like home—that’s not an accident,” Shelton told Entertainment Tonight in December 2019. “It was evidence to us that God had a hand in it.”

People’s source revealed that “Gwen is ecstatic” to be engaged: “Blake gives Gwen so many things that were missing from her life for years. She loves sharing her life with him.”

Great Outfits in Fashion History: Blake Lively in Siren-Red Michael Kors

blake-lively-michael-kors-red-coat-fall-2018

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

After you attend enough fashion shows, the front rows start to blur together, a mashup of famous faces in borrowed clothes. But, for a few different reasons, one that has stuck with me is the lewk Blake Lively wore to Michael Kors’s Fall 2018 runway. While the collection itself was…interesting, I couldn’t keep my eyes off Lively, from the moment I spotted her (get it?) walking into the venue.

The show happened to fall on Valentine’s Day, so Lively paid tribute to the holiday with her siren-red ensemble. The patent trench from Michael Kors’s Resort 2018 collection was a big statement on its own, but she punches it up another level with these pumps by (who else?) pal Christian Louboutin. (And this time, she didn’t need to photoshop them in.) With a coat this loud, she kept the jewelry simple, with artfully mismatched earrings and rings from Lorraine Schwartz.

It’s a pretty brilliant move to make your outerwear the basis of an outfit when it’s cold outside — and besides, with quarantine extending well into winter, a great coat will also cover up that you’ve been wearing the same sweatpants for three days straight. Add a shot of color to your winter wardrobe with one of these red coats:

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton Are Planning a Small Wedding

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton announced their engagement just over a week ago, but they’ve already started thinking about their big day. Their wedding, says an insider close to the pair, will be a subtle affair. According to the People source, “neither wants a big wedding.” The ceremony will reportedly be attended by their closest loved ones only—and the nuptials will hopefully happen as soon as possible.

As the singers iron out the details for their upcoming nuptials, more information about Blake’s proposal has come to light: The country music singer asked Gwen’s sons’ for their mom’s hand before getting down on one knee. “Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and asked their permission,” the source said. “Her family very much approves of him. He’s an amazing partner and a great extra dad to the boys. Gwen is ecstatic. The proposal was a surprise.”

The country music star also kept with another pre-proposal tradition: He asked Gwen’s father for permission to marry her, too, Us Weekly previously reported. “Blake had the ring custom-designed, and asked permission from her dad before asking Gwen,” an insider revealed to the outlet. “It meant so much to Gwen that Blake was so traditional about it.”

Blake officially asked his future bride to be his wife on October 17, in Oklahoma, which is where they have been quarantining with Gwen’s three sons during the COVID-19 pandemic, People noted. After taking some time to celebrate privately, they both took to their social media platforms to confirm their engagement. “Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life,” Blake captioned the engagement photo on Instagram. “I love you. I heard a YES!” Gwen shared a post of her own, writing: “@blakeshelton yes please!”

Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton Are Considering a Family-Only COVID Wedding

After five years of dating, one romantic proposal in Oklahoma, and a custom diamond ring worth well over half a mill, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are finally headed down the aisle. As you can imagine, these two have had some time to think about what they might want their nuptials to look like, so it shouldn’t be surprising to find out that, after months of work on their prenup already underway, the wedding planning isn’t too far behind. New details on what their ceremony might look like account for COVID, of course, but they also reflect the same spirit that’s been in Stefani and Shelton’s relationship all along: the idea that they’re building a family.

According to a source close to the “Nobody But You” singers, their Plan A was to have a big blowout wedding with all their loved ones. But as all brides-to-be this year know, COVID has forced just about everyone to revert to a Plan B — and Stefani and Shelton are quickly moving ahead down a different path.

“The goal for Blake and Gwen would be to get married after COVID so they have a chance to celebrate with everyone they want there. Planning is already taking place and the dream would be later next year [2021], when hopefully everyone is out of this COVID mess, or it is at least more contained,” the source tells Hollywood Life.

But look: Those of us listening to Dr. Fauci know that even the end of 2021 might not see everyone out of this COVID mess, and Stefani and Shelton are prepared for that reality too. The source confirms that the couple are prepared to wed “during COVID, if need be,” and are planning an intimate “family affair” of a ceremony as Plan B, in which Stefani’s sons Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo would be “very involved.”

While it may sound like they’re racing down the aisle now that the ring’s in place, the source assures us they’re still looking to “savor this moment of being engaged.” And their backup wedding plan is a sweet reminder that these two are perfectly aligned on what a ceremony with just the essentials would include: Stefani’s three sons, and the man who loves her.

Kevin Cash’s mind-boggling Blake Snell move gave Dodgers title

For the Dodgers the symbols of their last two championships are Kirk Gibson limping around the bases and Kevin Cash walking out of a dugout.

The first made the great Vin Scully proclaim, “In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened.” The same could have been said Tuesday night. In this improbable pandemic season, Cash, the Rays manager, did the impossible — he managed the game in his imagination rather than the one taking place on the actual field.

Blake Snell was offering a Madison Bumgarner, Curt Schilling, Bob Gibson kind of October performance. But hours before Snell threw his first pitch of World Series Game 6 — thus, hours before he had any idea what the lefty would deliver — Cash had decided Snell would not face anyone in the Dodger lineup a third time. Not one batter. No matter if he were dominating the very top of the order that was due nor that the reliever Cash would be summoning, Nick Anderson, had been generally atrocious this postseason.

Napoleon famously said, “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.” So the Dodgers stood back and watched Cash create his own Waterloo. If the art of managing best is doing what your opponent wants you to do least, then the Dodgers were thrilled to see Cash hook Snell with a two-hit, nine-strikeout shutout going one out into the sixth.

“I was pretty happy because [Snell] was dominating us and we weren’t seeing him,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “We were all kind of excited that Snell was out of the game.”

Even better for the Dodgers was to protect a 1-0 lead, Cash had brought in Anderson, who was already in the midst of a postseason record of giving up runs in six straight appearances. It would become seven quickly in what would be the seminal pivot of the Dodgers’ clinching 3-1 triumph.

“Yes, I regret it because it didn’t work out,” Cash said. “I thought the thought process was right.’’

Cash is likely to win AL Manager of the Year on Nov. 10. He cobbled the sum of the parts into a whole good enough to not only get to the World Series, but challenge a Dodgers club superior on paper. He was expert at motivating players to buy into a team concept in which anyone could be used at any time — to check egos at the door. But that philosophy perhaps kept him from appreciating what was occurring in front of him Tuesday night, leading to the worst World Series Game 6 flub since the ball was going through Buckner’s legs in 1986. At least those Red Sox still had a chance in Game 7. There is now no tomorrow for the Rays. What there was, instead, was the first title in 11,695 days for the Dodgers.

The last time the Dodgers won it all,

Gwen Stefani Addresses Rumors She Called Off Wedding to Blake Shelton

Rumors are constantly circulating online regarding The Voice coaches Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s relationship, and one of the most popular ones is that the couple had a wedding planned but ended up calling it off.

Stefani did not confirm or deny the rumor in an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show, but she did say that she’s not sure what’s going to happen with their eventual wedding, or if they’ll have one at all.

In the segment, Kotb said she Googled the term “Gwen and Blake,” and it autofilled to “Gwen and Blake call off wedding,” which is something that seems to continuously circulate online among fans of the couple. When asked what’s happening with the wedding, Stefani said that it’s a good question.

“Wow, oh, that’s a really good question,” Stefani answered. “Well, the good news is that we still like each other a lot, so that’s good… Um, I don’t know, we’ll see what happens, you know what I’m saying?”

Rumors Say Stefani and Shelton Called Off Their Wedding

Rumors appeared in September 2020 that Shelton and Stefani called off wedding and engagement plans following a fight over a prenup and political views. This news came out of a report by Us Weekly after a source told the outlet that the couple was having a hard time in quarantine.

Micky.com then reported that the couple called off their upcoming wedding.

“They feel suffocated and stressed,” a source told Us Weekly. “They’re both stretched to the limit.”

The news came out after Shelton and Stefani moved to Los Angeles after purchasing a $13.2 million home. According to the source, the couple had a hard time with that.

“As of now, the wedding is off,” a source reportedly told the outlet. “Gwen and Blake have put their plans on hold for the foreseeable future.’

These rumors, however, don’t seem to have much truth to them, as the couple has not announced an engagement.

Shelton Says He ‘Loves’ Rumors He & Stefani are Already Married

The couple doesn’t mind that people assume they’re already married. Stefani has said it’s “cute” that people already refer to Shelton as her husband even though they aren’t married, Shelton has said that he enjoys rumors that the two have already tied the knot.

When ET asked Shelton about the rumors that he and Stefani were already married or engaged, he said he “loves” the rumors.

“Those rumors are great,” he said in the December 2019 interview. “Anybody that thinks that I’m married to Gwen already, I love it. My God. Who wouldn’t want to be married to Gwen Stefani?”

At that time, he said that their relationship is getting stronger each day, but if they do decide to get engaged or married, they won’t break the news

That’s the question Today‘s Hoda Kotb wanted to know during a virtual interview with the No Doubt star this week. As fans may know, Gwen and Blake will soon celebrate their fifth anniversary together, but if they have any wedding plans, the “Cool” singer is keeping them tight-lipped.

While chatting with Gwen, Hoda said she searched “Gwen and Blake” on her phone and the results ranged from “Gwen and Blake song” to “Gwen and Blake married” to “Gwen and Blake engaged” to “Gwen and Blake call off wedding.” After reading some of the headlines, Hoda asked a surprised Gwen, “What’s happening with the wedding?”

In response, Gwen told Hoda, “That’s a really good question. Well, the good news is that we still like each other a lot, so that’s good.”

“I don’t know,” Gwen laughed. “We’ll see what happens, you know what I’m saying?”

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s Cutest Moments

In August, Gwen set the record straight on marriage rumors after singer Dua Lipa accidentally referred to Blake as Gwen’s husband.

“So I heard that you’ve been spending quarantine with your husband Blake Shelton at the ranch in Oklahoma,” Dua, who was filling in as host on Jimmy Kimmel Live, said during a virtual interview with Gwen. “Who else was with you? How was that?”

Taking a pause, Gwen replied, “Um, well…he’s not my husband, but that sounded cool when you said it.”

In early October, Blake took to social media to pay tribute to Gwen on her birthday. “It’s a special day for a special lady in my life,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Happy birthday @gwenstefani, I’d write a song for you every single day if I could…”

Gwen, who shares three kids with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, first sparked romance rumors with Blake in late 2015 after forming a bond on the set of The Voice. Now, Gwen is back on the show for another season alongside Blake and fellow coaches John Legend and Kelly Clarkson.

Gwen Stefani Nonchalantly Responded to Rumors That She and Blake Shelton Called Their Wedding Off

From Woman’s Day

Thank you, Hoda Kotb. The Today co-host finally asked the question we all want an answer to: When are Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton getting married? The “Hollaback Girl” singer appeared on Today to discuss returning to The Voice alongside her longtime boyfriend. But Kotb couldn’t help but squeeze in some wedding chat.

Before the interview, Kotb said she Googled “Gwen and Blake,” and one of the automated search fills was “Gwen and Blake call off wedding,” a rumor that has widely circulated online.

“So what’s happening with the wedding?” she asked. Stefani didn’t skip a beat. “Wow… that’s a really good question,” she said. “Well, the good news is that we still like each other a lot, so that’s good.”

And the dish stopped there. “I don’t know,” she laughed. “We’ll see what happens, you know what I’m saying?”

This isn’t the first time Stefani’s addressed her relationship status in an interview. In August, while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, singer Dua Lipa accidentally called Shelton her husband. “So I heard that you’ve been spending quarantine with your husband Blake Shelton at the ranch in Oklahoma,” Dua said. “Who else was with you? How was that?”

Stefani was quick to respond: “Um, well…he’s not my husband, but that sounded cool when you said it.”

Shelton has also addressed the rumors, and admittedly loves that some people think they’re married already. “I love the rumors. Those rumors are great,” he said in a January interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Anybody that thinks that I’m married to Gwen already, I love it. My God. Who wouldn’t want to be married to Gwen Stefani?”

In the same interview, Shelton said they both believe “God had a hand” in their union. “I think both of us know that the timing and the way that she and I met and it came together and just felt like home — that’s not an accident,” he said. “It was evidence to us that God had a hand in it.”

The musicians aren’t technically (well, publicly) engaged yet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from rallying for their betrothal. I mean c’mon, they recently released their second, very affectionate duet, “Happy Anywhere”; Stefani honored Shelton on Father’s Day, referring to his influential role in her kids’ lives; and they recently bought their first house together.

Their relationship has certainly grown over the years — and we can’t wait to see what their future holds!
