Seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams continues to expand her fashion presence, using her EleVen brand as the backbone for a new collaboration with classic tennis brand K-Swiss. The Nov. 11 launch of the K-Swiss x EleVen by Venus Williams limited-edition capsule collection includes a mix of 10 apparel items and a classic sneaker, all part of a growing repertoire of Williams in activewear.
“We wanted this collection to be an exciting representation of the qualities that make EleVen and K-Swiss unique,” Williams says. “The pieces are all designed with attitude and confidence to encourage women to embrace their authentic and best self.”
Throughout the collection, Williams says they used pops of colors like mint green or unexpected plaid to make the designs eye-catching. The purpose was to create a versatile collection, ideal for training or for comfort. “It’s definitely,” she says, “become my work-from-home uniform.”
Williams, who holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana University East and an associate degree in fashion design from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, has worn her EleVen brand on the court since it launched in 2007 but moved forward with collaborations aplenty in 2020. She’s already partnered with Credo Beauty earlier this year and launched a collection with Wonder Woman. “When looking to partner with another brand, we want to ensure their values align with ours,” Williams says. “From the beginning, K-Swiss was the perfect fit. They celebrate bold lifestyles, so we knew we wanted to create a collection that honored the boldness of women in a cool, confident way.”
Working with an iconic brand born in California in 1966, Williams says she appreciated the challenge of figuring out how to represent both K-Swiss and EleVen in each piece. “It’s always fun collaborating with someone new because it gives you the chance to see fashion from someone else’s perspective,” she says, “and that is how you learn and grow.”
K-Swiss started with footwear, the Classic 66, something Williams says she valued designing. “Every time you work with a new person, a new brand — whatever it may be — you have the opportunity to see how they think about things,” she says. “Everyone has their own unique eye when it comes to fashion, so I loved working with the K-Swiss team and seeing how they approach the creative process. It was an opportunity really flex my creativity, which is one of the reasons I love fashion design.”
The collection includes a school pride varsity sweater, a plaid tee, razor tank, leggings, a hoodie, jogger pant, sports bra and “MVP Varsity” jacket, along with the K-Swiss Classic 66 x EleVen by Venus Williams. She says
