Women’s Super League: Everton 2-2 Brighton & Hove Albion

Everton dropped points for the first time this season but remain second after their Women’s Super League draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Rikke Sevecke turned into her own net as Brighton took the lead, but Izzy Christiansen’s 30-yard deflected free-kick brought Everton level.

Valerie Gauvin headed in Christiansen’s corner to turn the game around, having seen Hayley Raso denied by Megan Walsh.

Aileen Whelan lashed the leveller into the top corner to spoil the hosts’ run.

Willie Kirk’s side poured the pressure on late in the game, with Danielle Turner striking a post, while visiting goalkeeper Walsh made some important saves.

The Toffees’ boss also appeared to be irritated by an incident which saw Kayleigh Green seem to have been cautioned twice, but not dismissed.

Former England coach Hope Powell’s Albion had lost two of their opening four games in the WSL but were not daunted by the trip to the pre-match pace-setters, and showed character to come back late on.

The one-touch build-up which created Whelan’s late goal was impressive, and a point was deserved.
