Everything Camila Coelho Learned From Launching Her Own Beauty Brand In 2020

Leave it to Camila Coelho to successfully launch a beauty brand in the middle of a global pandemic. The Brazilian fashion and beauty star who has amassed over eight million followers on Instagram dropped her line Elaluz, which translates to “she is light,” in August and it has only gone uphill from there.

She first introduced a luxurious Lip and Cheek Stain, Lip Therapy featuring 24 karat gold, a plant-based Beauty Oil, and a hydrating All Day Beauty Water. Then, the mega-influencer followed the release with an instant volume Dry Texture Finishing Spray, a stunning Brazilian Goddess Eyeshadow Palette, and just in time for the holidays, a Lip Luxuries Set along with a Nourish & Glow Holiday set.

It’s incredible what’s she’s been able to accomplish in only a few months, but it all actually started two years ago. There were plenty of building blocks before Coelho had a full collection that she could share to the world. Whether it was diving into the Lancôme labs to get insight on how to develop products of her own to drawing classic beauty inspiration from her grandmother, Coelho managed to put all the different pieces of the puzzle to create the items her followers are enjoying today.

Despite being an incredible businesswoman, Coelho still learned so much from the process of creating a beauty brand. In her Forbes interview below, she shared everything that she went through including behind-the-scenes stories that made all the hard work worth it. The best part is, this is certainly only the beginning and you can expect more products to come in the future.

Isis Briones: Why exactly did you decide to launch Elaluz?

Camila Coelho: “I’ve been a beauty lover since I was a little girl and I mean very little girl. I’ve always been playing with makeup, overly brushing my hair. When I was six years old, I started putting on this red lipstick that my grandmother gave to me. Through the years as a teenager, I decided to get a job at a makeup counter selling makeup with Dior and it was then that I really found my passion of working with makeup and people, so I decided to become a makeup artist.

I realized how transformative and empowering beauty was. From being a makeup artist, that’s when I found YouTube and how I got into social media as a hobby to start, of course. Then, it became my career and I’ve been dreaming about my beauty brand for a long time. It was a matter of timing and getting more experience in the beauty world meaning I wanted to collaborate with certain brands first.

For instance, I worked with Lancôme and I was actually able to develop the products with them, which was the lipstick. I went to the lab and I had the full experience. I wanted to have that before actually doing my own. The dream started years

Shawn Mendes Reveals the “Best Gift” He Received During Quarantine With Camila Cabello

There’s nothing holding Shawn Mendes back during quarantine.

At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the singer was faced with a lot of uncertainty when it came to touring and making new music. But in an exclusive sneak peek of his sit-down interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Shawn is opening up about the silver lining he found as he took time to slow down.

“The pandemic that’s happening and the isolation and the quarantine has been terrifying and really hard, but something really beautiful for me came out of it, which was you’re not allowed to leave,” the 22-year-old explained. “Stillness.”

“I went to Miami and I was living with Camila [Cabello] and her parents and her sister and I was in panic for the first week being like there’s no way I’m going to make an album,” Shawn continued. “And then when I started to settle in to how nice it is to be in the same place every night, to have a movie time, to cook dinner with the family and to do laundry. I know it sounds really kind of silly but when you’ve been touring the world since you’re 15 years old, like, I don’t remember the last time I smelled laundry. It’s a nice smell. It’s a really calming smell. It feels like growing up.”

It also allowed for the Grammy winner to get creative and start from scratch on a brand-new album.

“That stillness brought a lot of anxiety to the surface that I had to work through and on the other side of that was a really reflective period for me where I could be like, ‘Oh this is what I’ve been doing. This is crazy. This is what I can do. This is art. This is bigger than me,'” Shawn explained. “It was the first time I had the chance to even think about someone more than me. It was the first time I had enough space in my heart and my head that wasn’t so consumed about how many people were caring about what I was doing.”

Instead of worrying about how many likes or streams he was getting, Shawn was able to turn his peace into powerful new music that is sure to be a hit with critics and fans alike.

“It was the first time I was quiet and I was able to be like, ‘What is happening in this world and how do I feel about it and what can I do and where does this go from here?'” Shawn shared. “That was the best gift I think I’ve ever, ever been given in my whole life.”

From Marie Claire

Chances are you’ve come across a YouTube makeup tutorial from fashion and beauty entrepreneur Camila Coehlo. Or maybe you recognize the name from her eponymous clothing collection in partnership with Revolve. One thing’s for sure: Coehlo is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. The mega-influencer recently launched a clean beauty line Elaluz which means “she is light” in Portuguese. “I truly believe every person has an individual light shining from within and once you allow that light to shine through you are automatically more confident, stronger, and even more beautiful,” says Coehlo. Elaluz’s current offerings are made up of effortless beauty staples that work for everyone, including a lip and cheek stain, an ultra-hydrating lip balm, beauty oil, facial mist, and a dry texturizing hair spray. Below, this Brazilian beauty boss gives us a 24-hour look into her world.

Rise and Shine

I normally wake up at 8 a.m. The first thing I do is check WhatsApp as I use it to chat with my family. They like to send daily photos of my newborn nephew so that’s always great to wake up to.

Morning Maintenance

During quarantine, I’ve been giving myself a half hour to do my makeup. If I have to do full glam, I give myself one hour. My skincare consists of washing my face with water, applying my Elaluz Beauty Oil, then adding eye cream and de-puffing my face using a Gua Sha tool. I top everything off with sunscreen and my Elaluz 24K Lip Therapy. My hair is super fine and naturally straight so it gets oily easily. Every morning, I brush it and apply dry shampoo on my roots to make it look fresh and add texture. I sometimes style my hair in a bun or have it curly, but brushing and dry shampooing is still a must!

Signature Look

During quarantine, I have been going for a natural beauty look as much as possible: mascara, concealer and the Elaluz Lip & Cheek stain to give my face that natural flush.

Power Start

My go-to breakfast is scrambled eggs, black coffee, and my homemade Brazilian Pao De Queijo. It’s the perfect way to start the day.

Fitness Fix

I typically don’t have a lot of energy in the morning, so I work out in the afternoon. My workouts vary but once a week I will follow one of my virtual workouts that I do with my trainer Danny on my IGTV. Sometimes I go outside and play volleyball with my husband. We also love to go on bike rides together.

Self-Care Solutions

Mental health and wellness is so important to me. I take a few minutes at the beginning of each day to think about three things I am most grateful for. I also always take 10-15 minutes each day to step outside, take in the sun and be in nature. I started doing a 20 second hug with my husband every day and
