Carrie Underwood confirmed on Thursday (Sept. 24) that’s she’s about to get into the spirit of the season with her first-ever holiday special.

The country star will be starring in the HBO Max special on Dec. 3 to celebrate the release of her upcoming holiday album, My Gift, which is set to be released Sept. 25 via Capitol Records Nashville. The album has already been preceded by gospel-tinged original “Let There Be Peace.”

During the special, the American Idol champ will perform with a live orchestra and backing choir, belting out a variety of traditional holiday hymns along with more original songs off her LP.

“The journey of writing and recording this album started last year when I finished my tour and we could have never anticipated the circumstances we would be in this year,” Underwood said in a statement about the upcoming program. “Creating this album has been good for my heart, and I’m thrilled to get to share it with the world and to bring it to life with Playtone and HBO Max.”

In September, the singer made history by tying with Thomas Rhett for entertainer of the year at the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards, becoming the first and only female artist to win the prestigious award three times. Meanwhile, her most recent country album, 2018’s Cry Pretty, just rang in its second anniversary.

Carrie Underwood Sings Holiday Classics in ‘My Gift’ Trailer

Carrie Underwood brings holiday classics and originals to the stage in the new trailer for My Gift, her Christmas special set to premiere December 3rd on HBO Max.

In the My Gift trailer, Underwood is accompanied by an orchestra as she sings standards like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “O Holy Night” alongside the original compositions “Let There Be Peace” and “Favorite Time of Year.” Additionally, John Legend makes an appearance in the special to perform their duet “Hallelujah.”

“For Christmas, it was always about just us being together,” Underwood says in the clip, “so more than anything I wanted to make this album full of so much love and so much heart, and we wanted to bring it to life in a visual way.”

The television event coincides with Underwood’s album My Gift, a collection of Christmas songs that was released in September. In addition to the songs featured in the trailer, Underwood also recorded versions of “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Away in a Manger,” and “The Little Drummer Boy,” which features her son Isaiah Fisher.

My Gift is the second televised holiday event to bear Underwood’s name. In 2009, she hosted Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special with guests including Christina Applegate, Dolly Parton, and Brad Paisley, though the music skewed more toward her radio hits than holiday tunes.

Boris Johnson will become the first prime minister to marry while in office at Downing Street for 198 years, should he and his fiancée Carrie Symonds tie the knot while he is still serving.

A spokesperson for Boris revealed that he and Carrie were engaged in February (after Boris proposed in December 2019), when it was also confirmed that the couple were expecting a baby this summer, but they are yet to say ‘I do’.

Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds got engaged in December 2019

Before that, the Duke of Grafton, also the first British prime minister to be divorced, tied the knot with his second wife, Elizabeth Wrottesley, while in office in 1769.

Boris Johnson has previously been married twice. He divorced from Marina Wheeler earlier this year after 27 years together, while his relationship with Allegra Mostyn-Owen ended in 1993, six years after they wed, meaning that his wedding with Carrie Symonds will mark a third ceremony.

Only two British prime ministers before Boris have been divorced: the Duke of Grafton who divorced his first wife in 1769 before remarrying in the same year, and Sir Anthony Eden who divorced his first wife in 1950 and went on to remarry two years later.

Boris made an additional first alongside Carrie in relation to their living arrangements. He moved into No 11 Downing Street with Carrie in July 2019, when Carrie was just his girlfriend. Before then, the four-bedroom apartment had only ever been home to prime ministers’ wives or husbands.
