Fashion Icon Tracee Ellis Ross Had a Lot to Say About the Power of Clothes at the People’s Choice Awards

Tracee Ellis Ross and fashion are officially married.

The actress took the stage at the E! People’s Choice Awards to accept the award for Fashion Icon by literally saying “I do” to fashion. She then thanked the people for justifying her shopping habit, gave a shoutout to her iconic mother Diana Ross, flipped her skirt like a cape and shouted “I am a fashion icon!”

Basically Tracee just proved exactly how iconic she is in just a two minute speech, as if we didn’t already know.

People’s Choice, I can’t thank you enough for validating my shopping habit and validating little teenage Tracee who begged her mom for seasonal clothing budget. Spoiler alert, I did not get it.” she said. “Speaking of which, thank you to my father for paying for those chestnut suede Ralph Lauren jeans I tricked him into buying me when I was 14, for his impeccable style and for being my humor twin. And obviously I have to thank the icon herself, my mom not only for her great parenting and not acquiescing to my many whimsical demands, but to her style and glamour that introduced me to the power of fashion.”

Tracee recalled running onstage after her mother’s shows to pick up all the beads that had fallen off of Diana’s dresses, “so I could have pieces of the magic.” She also gave a shoutout to the Salvation Army and the Rose Bowl Flea Market for sustaining her on a budget when her own paycheck wasn’t enough to buy new.

“Secondhand clothing helped me understand that style has nothing to do with money. It’s the way you put things together—style is the how, not the what,” she said. “I spent years playing dress-up in my closet as way to find some freedom or some power and the more that I discovered who I really was, the more I was able to hone my creative expression through clothing.”

Tracee used the latter half of her speech to call people to action, even (or especially) through fashion.

“I wear my insides on the outside, and if featuring Black designers at American Music Awards helped someone see the power of Black artistry or if joining the call to wear black at the Golden Globes led to solidarity with women saying time’s up on sexual harassment, then you heard me loud and clear. If fashion is the thing that draws you in, use it as a tool for transformation.”

“Use fashion as an entrance,” she continued. “Let clothes be your superhero cape, allowing you to be the best you you can be. Activate the clothes through your joy and commitment to the world that you want to see. It doesn’t matter if you wear black tie or a ‘Black Lives Matter’ t-shirt, but

Tracee Ellis Ross Named Fashion Icon at People’s Choice Awards 2020, Calls Her Mom the True ‘Icon’

Tracee Ellis Ross shows off two looks while attending the 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards on Sunday (November 15) at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

The 48-year-old Black-ish actress wore a brown suit on the red carpet and then fittingly changed into a second look to accept the award for Fashion Icon of 2020.

Tracee made sure to thank the magazine industry, stylists she’s worked with (including Karla Welch), designers, her father, and her mother Diana Ross, who she called “the icon herself.”

“Not only for her great parenting … but also her example, her sense of style, her epic closet and her glamour that introduced me to the power of fashion,” Tracee said.

She also talked about how she’d go on stage to collect the beads that fell off her mom’s dresses “so that I could have pieces of the magic, seeds of the fashion dream that I was cultivating for myself.”

Also pictured inside is Tyler the Creator, who presented the award.

FYI: Tracee is wearing a Schiaparelli suit and jewels with Christian Louboutin shoes on the carpet. On stage, she is wearing a full Alexander McQueen look with Ana Khouri jewels.

Fashion Icon Tracee Ellis Ross Stuns In a Power Suit at the 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards

She’s here to reclaim her rightful place on the throne as the queen of fashion!

Fashion Icon Tracee Ellis Ross Stuns In a Power Suit at the 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards

Tracee Ellis Ross is this year’s E! People’s Choice Awards Fashion Icon, which should come as no surprise to fans who have seen her strut her stuff year after year on red carpets everywhere. Sunday night’s event was no different. Tracee looked absolutely gorgeous in a tan flowing suit with a gorgeous red lip and slicked back braid to go with it.

The Black-ish star has always been a mainstay on the red carpets thanks to her impeccable fashion sense, which she no doubt inherited from her mom Diana Ross!

She dropped by the E! red carpet to talk to Giuliana Rancic about her incredible honor, and she was mostly just excited to be outside of the house for the first time in a long time.

“Being named a Fashion Icon by the People’s Choice Awards is definitely putting a big smile on my face,” she shared “I am either at home or at work right now. Work has been a joyful, safe place to go. Coming here, every cell in my body was like ‘Woooo where are we going?!'”

Of course Giuliana had to ask the star when she first realized that she enjoyed fashion, and honestly, she doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t.

“As I was coming out of the womb,” she joked about falling in love with style. “I was like where is the sparkles? Where is the feathers? Give them

Some mothers can’t drop out in Covid pandemic but have no choice

Before the pandemic hit, Juanita Dutton was working hard.

Since moms are more likely to handle child care, women’s jobs have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and its economic crisis.

A single mother, she has two kids, 8 and 10, one with severe autism and the other with dyslexia. Dutton was employed as a hotel housekeeper while working toward her associate’s degree in computer science. She was doing the impossible: surviving on a low income, taking care of her kids and working toward a better future.

“I was very busy,” she said.

The one thing that made her life work, no matter how hard that life was: Her kids were in school full time.

Once everything shut down, there was no way for her to maintain her studies or go to work in Lawrence, Kansas. There is no one else to provide medical care or educational support for her kids.

“I didn’t see how I can pay for day care and go to work at the same time,” she said. “I would not even be able to provide for food or my rent or anything.”

For five months, Dutton lived on her stimulus check plus $122 a week of unemployment, using food pantries to feed her kids. But once the government assistance dried up, she had to find work.

Disproportionate impact on women

Women’s jobs and careers have been hit much harder than men’s during the pandemic and its accompanying economic crisis. Women are disproportionately likely to handle the child care and domestic labor during the pandemic. A quarter of professional women are pondering leaving or downsizing their jobs, per a report by McKinsey & Company and LeanIn.Org. In September, 865,000 women dropped out or were forced out of the workforce, compared to 216,000 men.

“It’s no coincidence that that is also when schools were supposed to start across the country,” said C. Nicole Mason, executive director and CEO of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, who has labeled this economic downturn a “she-cession.” “What’s being asked of mothers is just impossible.”

As one of those women trying desperately to keep one foot in the workforce, I’ve reduced my freelance hours to be there for my 8- and 11-year-old daughters. I know firsthand just how hard it is to navigate this new landscape, without the structural support of school and child care.

But, in one of many heartbreaking pandemic plot twists, that’s the privileged position to be in. If you can stop working or reduce hours and still afford to eat and pay rent, you’re one of the lucky ones — even if it means drastically shrinking income or giving up on dreams.

Some women, meanwhile, have to quit working even if it means descending into poverty. “It’s not just parents who have the means to drop out,” Mason said. “There are moms who’ve had to leave who couldn’t afford to do so, but they had no choice because there was no one there to be

From Marie Claire

  • Victoria Beckham poked fun at husband David Beckham’s fashion choices in a hilarious post on her Instagram Story Sunday.

  • Sharing a photo of David wearing an extremely large pair of brown leather boots, she likened his footwear to that of Beauty and the Beast character Gaston, writing, “Gaston wants his boots back @davidbeckham.”

  • Defending his bold footwear as a “last minute shoe option,” David responded, “Revenge will be sweet @victoriabeckham.”

Victoria and David Beckham aren’t afraid to poke fun at each other every once in a while, making their respective social media accounts extremely enjoyable follows. The latest example: Victoria mocked her husband for his…interesting choice of footwear in a recent family photo, and David quickly vowed to take revenge.

On Sunday, Victoria posted a photo of herself and David wearing poppy pins to mark Remembrance Sunday, the British day of memorial for fallen service members. In the snap, Victoria wears blue jeans and an orange and blue roll-neck sweater, while David wears a white shirt, gray blazer, brown corduroy jeans—and some extremely large, somewhat discordant brown leather boots.

Victoria subsequently reposted a cropped version of the photo on her Instagram Story, likening David’s boots to those worn by Beauty and the Beast‘s Gaston. “Gaston wants his boots back @davidbeckham,” she captioned the post.

David was quick to respond—and to explain his choice of footwear. “So my wife decided to post before asking me or cropping my last minute shoe option,” he wrote on his own Instagram Story, reposting Victoria’s comparison photo of himself and Gaston (note: David labeled himself as “GASTON” and the Disney character “ME”.) And he pledged vengeance against his wife, too, writing, “Revenge will be sweet @victoriabeckham.” Very much looking forward to the next development in this marital battle!

Victoria Beckham Trolls Husband David Beckham for His Fashion Choice and He Vows Revenge

Victoria Beckham’s trolling of her husband, David Beckham, might have consequences! The 46-year-old former Spice Girl took to Instagram on Sunday to share some family photos and videos in honor of British Remembrance Sunday.

In the shots, Victoria and David, 45, pose somberly, sporting symbolic red poppy pins in honor of the veteran lives lost. Two of their children, Cruz, 15, and Harper, 9, join them in one clip.

For the somber occasion, Victoria sported a burnt orange turtleneck sweater with navy blue sleeves and bell bottom jeans. Her husband went formal in a grey suit jacket and white button-down with brown pants. But it was his footwear that raised some eyebrows and caused the fashion designer to poke fun at him.

David rocked a pair of brown, extremely oversized boots, or “wellies,” which many commenters chose to point out on Victoria’s post. She acknowledged the bold fashion choice in her Instagram Stories.

“Gaston wants his boots back @davidbeckham,” Victoria wrote on a split image of David and the cartoon villain, Gaston, from Beauty and the Beast

This Skincare Masque Just Won the WH Reader’s Choice Beauty Award

When it comes to beauty, it’s safe to say that the world of skincare is a minefield to navigate. So, when our readers declared that they were obsessed with one product in particular we thought it was only fair to let the rest on the secret.

The product in question? The Ordinary Salicylic 2% Masque, which was voted ‘Reader’s Choice Skincare Hero’ in the Women’s Health 2020 Beauty Awards.

Yep, the cult budget brand has done it again, launching a stellar skincare product that you guys (and us to be frank) can’t get enough of. Here’s how the product works and why it’s worth adding to your skincare routine, stat.

What does The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Masque do?

The first mask in The Ordinary’s beloved range, it’s designed to clear up blemishes thanks to its hero ingredient salicylic acid.

A BHA (beta hydroxy acid) salicylic acid is renowned for being acne’s kryptonite. The acid is oil-soluble, meaning it can cut through excess oil on the skin’s surface allowing it unclog pores, gently exfoliate and reduce inflammation.

The mask’s inky black hue comes courtesy of clarifying charcoal, which teams up with other clays to ensure a deep and thorough cleanse. The result? Smoother, clearer and more radiant skin after use.

Is The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Masque any good?

Yes! The jelly-like mask doesn’t just harness the powers of salicylic acid to fight blemishes. Other complexion clearing ingredients include kaolin, a mild clay that’s able to absorb oil without stripping skin so that it feels tight or dry.

There is also a dose of charcoal, an ingredient renowned for its ability to detoxify the skin. It’s also worth adding the amount of salicylic acid in the mask is the most you can put in a skincare product, hence why its so brilliant at banishing blemishes.

Salicylic Acid 2% Masque

How do you use The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque?

The Ordinary advise to only use the mask once or twice a week on clean, dry skin only. Simply apply evenly across the skin using fingertips and leave on for no more than 10 minutes. Then rinse off with lukewarm water and you’re good to go.

Do not use on sensitive, peeling or broken and avoid the eye contour and contact with eyes both during application and rinse off. If you have sensitive skin apply the product as directed to a small area once a day for three days to test if you are sensitive to this product.

Even in winter keep up with your SPF use. Salicylic acid increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
